Steve & Aaron, I'd be curious to know what you find on the "Grand 12 Inches" CD - the butchered version or the original 12" remix from master tape.

I'm watching this one to see what develops. I never would have dreamed 30 years ago that this one little ditty would be such an issue getting the hit mix on CD. Go figure.
Ron, to answer your above Q, yes, that is the same Gloria Jones that recorded the original "Tainted Love" (and infamous girlfriend of Marc Bolan).
And, she owns the rights to the Gonzalez recordings, but obviously not the masters.
Too bad, the master tape for this 12" remix (and hit 45 edit) is sitting somewhere in a Capitol/EMI vault collecting dust and glueing itself together as we speak.
As a side note, i have a friend who once a had a long chat with John Luongo, and John told him he has master copies of every remix he's ever done. I wish he had kept in touch!

Well, the Grand 12 Inches comp has the full 12" version; however, it is completely from vinyl. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the transfer isn't the best, either. Sorry I couldn't bring better news.

Since someone pointed out all the new iTunes discoveries today, I thought I'd do a search on "Haven't Stopped Dancin' Yet". I found a Gonzalez CD called "Our Only Weapon Is Our Music" and it contains a version of "Haven't Stopped Dancin' Yet" called "Hit Single Version" which is a bonus track. Of course, they could mean the first single version, but the fact that they go out of their way NOT to label this as "single version" but "hit single version" makes me wonder if they actually knew what they were talking about. Can anyone who's real familiar with the hit single version check out the 30 second snippet on iTunes and report back if it's really the hit single mix that many of us are looking for?

I just checked, and it's not the hit single mix. Interestingly, the 12" mix is on iTunes, which can be edited to create the single version; however, I can hear clicks and pops in the 30 second snippet. It's taken from vinyl, without question.

Bringing back an old thread - We've discussed the ongoing issues of this song in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 ... and now 2010! And btw, if you read this thread from the beginning, I think this song and its versions on vinyl & CD have to rank as perhaps the most confusing/complex thread that's ever appeared on this board!
I thought I'd create a playlist of my favorite disco songs, but their long versions. Usually I collect just the single versions of disco songs, but for some reason, right now I feel like getting the longer versions. After all, the disco format, more than any other format except perhaps classic rock, tended to lend itself toward longer versions.
So my question is - Are there any CDs -import or domestic- that contain a version of "Haven't Stopped Dancin' Yet" that is longer than the 3:42 single edit AND COMPLETELY FROM A TAPE SOURCE? It seems like all these near-8 minute versions (or 5-minute) are either from a combo of tape & vinyl, or purely vinyl. So I'm wondering if this song has any LONG version completely from tape. It will probably only show up on an import, if at all.
Does anyone know? (And Aaron, you're quite an expert on this song so I hope you have input as well. :)
And Pat, on the 2 Thump versions in the database, can you add that "portions of this recording are taken from vinyl" as many people have confirmed -- I almost bought the Thump CD, but luckily, I decided to read through all these posts tonight and realized I should stay away from this CD after everyone posted it's mostly from vinyl.

I haven't actually checked all the CDs that contain a long 8:00 mix, because I'm afraid I'll just be wasting my money on CDs with vinyl dubs. I've collected several CDs over the years with extended mixes, including some from Rhino and other major labels. Even the big labels have often times taken those 12" mixes directly from vinyl.

I'll agree with Edison, this is definitely one of the most complex and frustrating hits of the top 40 era. Never would have thunk it back then.
Btw, sorry i never went back to this thread after my old post, so i missed some replies afterward.
Hey, for all the above folks who are still looking for a decent clean/clear copy of the long hit mix (from which the 45 can edited):
The hit 12" mix was released 2 ways, on the 12" which all copies i've heard tend to be grungy sounding because the grooves were spanned across the whole record, and most copies got the abuse of lots of DJ play.
But they also put it on re-issued version of the Capitol LP "Haven't Stopped Dancin". It was the first track on a very good quality vinyl LP, therefore clean all the way thru. I own a mint copy, and have dubbed and cleaned it.
Anyone who'd like a wav file (via one of those upload svcs) send me a PM and i'll be happy to send.
Mine is the cleanest i've ever heard it. All the above mentioned copies for sale on various cd's and I-tunes, i've heard, and sound terrible.

That's disappointing that the 12" vinyl sounds bad, as that is usually the primo source in terms of sound quality (many 12" vinyl transfers I have done sound as good or better than CD sources).
But that's encouraging news on the reissue LP. Do you happen to have the matrix number of that LP? I may try to track one down myself.
I'm not even sure why I care anymore, because I never had strong feelings about this song one way or another (although it is a fun little disco tune). Guess the completist in me just has to have something better than my soft-sounding 45 needledrop.

very odd....my commercial 45 issued as capitol 4674 states a run time of 3:45 but actually runs 3:43...i have a 4:08 version on cdr that is identical to the 45 version except faded for 0:12 from 3:31 to 3:43....the sound quality is great....if anyone wants a copy of this version, let me know and i will shoot it out for your review....the etching in the run out groove of the vinyl 45 is "s45 x60020a f2"

i just checked allmusic.com and there are quite a few imports that contain a 4:10-4:13 version of the song.....my guess is that is where i got my cdr from years ago.....the db doesn't show any of these because they're imports, but there out there....

Ed just sent me a dub of his 45, and this is the non-hit mix. So, apparently, some copies on Capitol 4674 were pressed with the earlier mix. Interesting!

I went back and read the earlier posts in the thread, and it looks like
Ed sent me a dub of his 45 several years ago, too; however, the dub
he sent back then is not the dub he sent this time. Ed, do you have
two 45s for this one?

Perhaps, then, the dub I received several years ago wasn't from you. There's no mistaking the original, non-hit mix with the shorter hit version. I wouldn't have been able come to my earlier conclusion without having a dub of the shorter hit version, which I determined is an early fade of the longer one.

Does your 45 say S-X60020D on the left side under the 4674? My 45 does have that number printed under the word STEREO plus the etching I have on mine is S45 X60020D F2.
