I owned the U.S. 45 back in 1987, and the 45 B-side was an instrumental mix, with a few backing vocals mixed in toward the end. I do not recall it being just a straight "lead
vocals muted" instrumental version of the LP Version or 7" "Local Mix", but it also wasn't incredibly dubby either.
It could be an edit of the Jellybean's 12" "Midtown Dub", but if I recall correctly, that mix had more percussion overdubs than the 7" instrumental.

I haven't played the 45 in years, but my recollection is the same. I recall it being mostly an instrumental mix but with some vocals. I also don't remember it sounding like a dub/remix version.

Interesting: there's a video on YouTube that shows that the UK 45 has the LP version as the A-side and the "Local Mix" as the B-side.
