Thanks for confirming the Essential version of "Weep" is
different than all the others. I did not recall hearing
the Essential version on the radio or in the video for this
song either. Where did this version come from? Did
someone pull the wrong mix from the vault or was this
tweaked for Essential like Richard Carpenter always does on
every Carpenters compilation?

I believe someone simply pulled the wrong mix. I even spoke to someone at Legacy/Sony, and he was unaware of the mix differences until I pointed them out to him.

Just an update to CrapFromThePast's:

"Can't Smile Without You
TWO key changes, at 1:32 and 2:31"

There are actually 3 key changes in this song!

There's an additional one at 2:11

for anyone interested...manilow re-released his 1989 song "when the good
times come again" as a digital single in 2020. however, this new version has
additional instrumentation that is not present on the album version. while it
wasn't originally issued as a single back then, i just discovered that there
was
a promo cd pressed. because i cannot find any information regarding a
remix
for this new (better) version, i am curious if this might be the digital debut
of that
promo cd? perhaps it was in fact remixed in '89 for radio play...? can anyone
confirm? here's the new mix on youtube:

I have the promo 1989 version but not on CD single, an actual 45. And I'm almost certain it's the same as the album mix.

I believe I read the 2020 remix was created after a fan made a music video (of the original mix) at the beginning of the pandemic due to the lyric being appropriate for what the world was going through in the early stages of the shutdown.

One of the key lines that stood out for me is:
Hope we both survive the world out there

That video started grabbing attention and so Arista head Clive Davis released the new mix of the song to AC radio, and it got up to #12 on the Billboard AC chart! Who would have guessed Manilow would have a nearly-top 10 AC hit in the 20's decade (with a 1989 recording, remixed?) Not me!
