The audio from this vinyl rip ends circa 3:52. Is the playback at the wrong speed? Or is this the correct speed for the 45?

Madonna - Crazy For You - 45 rpm 1985

UPDATE: On further perusal, the video below seems to match what's been quoted above (Fade to silence around 3:58).

True Blue – There's some confusion regarding the 45 version of
this song, since Joel Whitburn lists its running time as 3:59, which is the
running time of the LP edit on the promo 45.

Even though Whitburn's books state they are based on commercial
copies, I'm willing to bet he's been able to acquire most of the promos
as well.

Oh Father – The U.S. 45
picture sleeve is very rare for some reason.

Actually there was never a US picture sleeve for "Oh Father". One of
Whitburn's books mistakenly indicated there was, and he later admitted
it was a mistake in an e-mail to me several years ago.

Madonna did have two rare sleeves - "Borderline", which was a poster
sleeve, and "Keep it Together", which had limited distribution in 1990 as
labels basically ditched the picture sleeve early that year.

I bought that 45 with pic sleeve off ebay like 15 years ago. I paid close
to $50 for it, but it was definitely worth it!

The 7" Version of "Like a Prayer" is now available as a lossless download on the new Rhino EP "Like a Prayer Remixes":

https://us.7digital.com/artist/madonna/release/like-a-prayer -15126083?f=20%2C19%2C12%2C16%2C17%2C9%2C2

The exciting thing for completists is that the final three tracks on this EP are three dub versions that were never issued on CD, or issued commercially at all -- they were only on the 12" vinyl promo. All three sound to be taken from tape sources, to my ears.

The sound is not brickwalled, though it is a bit more compressed than the original CD versions, but in my opinion not objectionably so.

The only fault in this digital release is that two tracks from the US promo CD single, the 7" Dance Remix Edit and the 7" With Fade, are not included.

Another week, another Madonna catalog EP released from
Rhino, this time a ten-track album of "Frozen" remixes.

Two remix edits that were previously promo-only are
included, as well as two dubs that were previously
vinyl-only. All appear to be from tape sources and
genuine lossless, and the dynamic range of the
previously-released tracks seems to be identical to the
original CDs... one remix/edit I sampled passes the
"null" test with the promo CD single, which means
they're digitally identical, even the volume.

I noticed this about the "Like a Prayer" digital release, too. The tracks that had been available in digital quality
before seem to be the original masterings, but the three previously vinyl-only cuts were clearly mastered later.
Those three new-to-digital tracks are compressed, as noted, but nowhere near brickwalled. I am very happy with the
quality of that release, although I do wish the mastering style matched all-the-way-throughout.

And "Bedtime Story" digital EP coming next Friday, 3/19,
14 versions. Four or five of them were previously vinyl-
only.

Apparently "Fever" and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"
were scheduled for digital EP release and were
replaced with "Frozen" and "Bedtime Story." I wonder
why they're releasing these so fast and furious.

Madonna is currently working with Diablo Cody on a screenplay for a
biopic. My theory is that she and/or WB are hoping the movie will
reignite the idea of Madonna as a classic/legacy pop artist and "icon" in
the general public's mind, and they want the storefronts stocked with as
much product as possible ahead of time, especially with what may be
key songs in the movie ("Like a Prayer" and "Vogue" are certainly both
high-profile singles for her that have now has the official digital rollout
treatment).

*Please forgive any weird formatting, posting from my phone.

Ughh! Just saw that the "Lush" mixes are going to be
included. Of course this happens after I finally
splurge after years to buy the vinyl about 3 months
ago!

The law of the universe! Spending too much money and time on a
collector's item causes a ripple in the fabric of existence that renders it
commonly available for a lot less effort immediately. Usually within a
month or so.

"Express Yourself" digital EP was just released,
including the 7" Remix version.

That is all!

I usually come here for information. I'm so glad to now be able to arrive and experience true wisdom!

I first experienced this when searching for a comprehensive set of Lisa Stansfield singles. After purchasing the 4 CD box set at an obnoxious price overseas,
a single CD became available shortly afterwards for much less. *Sigh*

And the 7" Remix, Remix/Edit, and Non-Stop Express Mix
are digital clones of the promo CD... they cancel out
perfectly, to silence, in an audio editor. So there is
literally no need to buy the promo CD anymore for
those tracks... they appear to have been simply ripped
from the promo.

Oddly, the Local Mix, which was also on the promo,
does NOT cancel out, nor does it cancel out with the
Japan Remixed Prayers CD, which are the only two
places it was ever issued on CD.

Volume is consistent across all five tracks on the
digital EP, though, and is consistent with what you
would have gotten in 1989.

Could it be they "fixed" the intro and added the echo to the word "love"
...? Or is it still curiously absent?

No, they didn't. That was never part of the Local Mix...
it's exclusive to the video mix, which was never issued
anywhere except on the soundtrack to the video.

Can you explain
more about this "bell curve." I'm assuming it means
that it's not a 45 degree slope. What software does
this?

Most fadeouts have a bell curve slope to them, rather
than a straight slope. Cool Edit Pro has a "bell
curve" setting under the "Envelope" dialog box. I
generally always do these manually, though. Here is
my secret to creating great sounding fades using
percentages:

- Leave about a half second of extra audio.
- Select the start and end points of your fade.
- Fade from 100% to 0%
- Fade again from 100% to 7%
- Fade one more time from 100% to 11%

7-11. Thanks! I'll remember that. But, is there a
way to create a template of a curve you want to
duplicate?

I find that getting accurate fades is the hardest
thing to do.

The 45 version of "Everybody" has finally been released.

Available as a digital single in the usual platforms, it's
backed with the 7" instrumental, which was the B-side on most
European countries (excepting the UK, which had their own
remix for the single release).

The sound is heavily compressed, no surprise there.

You might want to provide a link to the release. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up! I see it's on iTunes Canada with a
release date given of October 6, 2022.
