Can anyone help me out by telling me the difference between the 45 and LP versions of "White Wedding"? Different mix? Edit? Early fade? If it's an edit, what parts are edited out?

If I recall, the entire second verse was cut out. Might explain why this was a HUGE hit in Canada, and tanked here in the U.S. Once I picked up the LP, I immediately dumped my 45 (I know, heresy!) in favor of its longer LP cousin.

Just recently, Ed sent me an mp3 dub of his 45. What's interesting is that the 45 version of "White Wedding" is just an early fade of the 12" version found on Vital Idol. Prior to my discovery, I tried editing the LP version found on most other releases, and I had success up until the ending. The LP version fades out too early to create the entire 45 version.
Had I known all along that the 12" version was already edited and only needed a fade, I wouldn't have put myself to the trouble in the first place. Of course, there are CDs that have the 45 version, but I didn't feel like spending the money when I already had this song on three CDs.

Not sure if I'm following right. The 45 version is missing a verse that the
LP version has? Does that mean the 12" version is missing the same verse
sinec the you're saying the 45 version is an early fade of the 12"?

I read on another thread on the board that the 45 was missing the second
verse, so I decided to try to make a edit. Not having the actual single as a
reference my edit came out to 3:30. Whether this is an accurate recreation is
only a guess, but by comparing the times it looks as it very well could be.

I don't have any CD with the 45 version, but I'll have to listen to the LP
version and 12" versions with the lyrics printed out in front of me. I'm
wondering if the 12" version has the verse missing from the 45, only later
in the song. Because it's actually called "Parts 1 & 2", so i always thought
of it as the full length version rather than an "extended" version. Maybe
the LP version is edited down from the 12" and the 45 is just an early fade
of the 12", which would explain the missing verse.

Without going back and checking "part 2" from the 12" version, I can't say for sure if that verse shows up later in the song or not.
I can definitely say that the LP version is NOT edited down from the 12" version. I'd say it's the other way around. If you compare the LP and 45 versions side by side, you'll hear what I'm talking about. The 45 has noticeable (not necessarily bad) edits, whereas the LP version does not.
Also, the 45 rearranges some of the parts of the LP version. Going from memory, I believe a bridge and one of the verses is moved to an earlier part of the song for the 45.
This is only speculation, but here's what I would gather. There was one long take of the song that went on for 8+ minutes. For the LP, they faded that take out around 4:10. Then, for the 45, they made a few "rearrangements" and edits of the original take to get the song to 3 1/2 minutes. The 12" version is essentially the 45 version (with edits) but extended past the fade. If the parts that were chopped from the early part of the song show up in the second half of this mix, then my speculation would be totally wrong :)

wow. this is really crazy. This is what I learned comparing the LP version (titled Part 1 on the CD) to the 12" version (titled Part 1&2) while following along with the lyrics.
This is the verse (2nd on the LP version) that is cut from the 12":
Hey little sister who is it your with
Hey little sister what's your vice and wish?
Hey little sister shot gun (oh yeah)
Hey little sister who's your superman
Hey little sister shot gun!
After the break, verses come in on the 12" that do not appear in the LP version at all. At 5:05 this verse comes in (simply an altered version of an existing verse):
Hey little sister what have you done
Hey little sister who's the only one
Hey little sister shotgun
Hey little sister shotgun oh-ho
Hey little sister shotgun
Then at 5:50 comes this verse, which begins with the same lyrics as the verse cut out of the 12", but never gets around to the "who's your superman" part:
Hey little sister who is it your with
Hey little sister what's your vice and wish?
Who have you sold yourself to
Who have you sold your soul to
Hey little sister shotgun
So the bottom line is, there is no ONE version that has all the lyrics!

Good info, budaniel. Did you also discover that in addition to cutting a verse, they moved a later section of the LP version to an earlier part of the 45?

didn't listen to the 45 version, but I did indeed notice the drastic mixing
around of parts of the song.
