Pat, my commercial 45 for this states (FM Mix) just below the title, and has both a listed and actual time of (3:09). Deadwax is "B-8181-S-45-501218-A-Z4". My promo 45 makes no such "FM Mix" declaration, on either side. Like my stock copy, both promo 45 sides also have a listed and actual side of (3:09). I carefully listened to both 45s, just to make sure they were all the same version. And, despite having the same times, it immediately became very obvious to me that added rhythm guitar overdubs have been generously added, throughout the (FM Mix), that does not appear on either side of my promo 45. In 1983, I was buying every Billboard "Hot 100" new entry during the VERY first week that they entered the chart. For this reason, it is highly unlikely that my stock 45 was a "later, 2nd commercial issue." My promo deadwaxes, despite both sides featuring the same version (no overdubs), have slightly different deadwaxes: "B-8181-S-45-501218-Z-1", with the other side the same, but ending in "Z-3". I do not own her "Cafe Racers" CD, which is the only current CD in the database that you do not describe as featuring a "Dance Mix." Do you own a commercial 45? If you do, does it state (FM Mix)? And if so, does the amount of guitar present on your 45 equate with the "Cafe Racers" CD version, or is it possibly the "no overdubs" version found on my promo 45 instead? Pat, if you'd like me to shoot you out a dub, for any of my various "Invisible Hands" 45 versions, let me know - I'll be glad to assist you in helping to get to the bottom of this case.

My 45 is also a dj copy with no FM mix label Jim so if you could forwaard me an mp3 of the commercial copy, I can compare it to the Cafe Racer cd version.

Jim, the version on the "Cafe Racers" cd is the FM mix as found on the commercial 45. Now since I do not have the "Cafe Racers" vinyl LP, we need to determine which version appears on the vinyl LP before I make any 45 version designation in the database.

Ed, I have obtained the vinyl LP "Cafe Racers" and it also features the "FM mix" even though it is not stated anywhere on the jacket or vinyl label that this is the "FM mix". So there is no LP vs commercial 45 distinction to be made.

Interesting how the "FM mix" is not the one most likely heard on the radio.
I have a promo 12" of this with the "FM mix" on one side and an extended dance mix on the other. I didn't listen closely, but the dance mix just sounds like an extended version of the FM mix. My only 45 is the promo single...I guess I never listened closely to detect the mix differences between it & the FM mix. I don't have the commercial 45.

There is the guitar overdub at 2:15-2:25 on the commercial 45 of the "FM mix." (matrix number "B-8181-S-45-501218-A-Z1"
But both sides of the promo don't have the guitar overdub at 2:15-2:25. (matrix number "B-8181-S-45-501218-Z-3-1" and "B-8181-S-45-501218-Z-1"
Although I don't have the US "Cafe Racer" LP. "Invisible Hands" on the Japanese "Cafe Racer"LP is the same as the US commercial 45 "FM mix."

Ed, can you check the back of your "Crazy In The Night" cd to see if it states printed and manufactured in Canada? My copy and several others that I have seen in the local used cd stores say that and I am just curious as to whether there is a US pressing of this cd.

I have the Crazy in the Night CD, too, and though it was printed and manufactured in Canada, I recall seeing many copies sold in US stores at regular prices, not import prices, and based on all the times I saw it in stores here, I always got the impression that there was some kind of deal made where it was released in the US but no printing was changed on it.

i just compared my vinyl 45 issued as emi america 8181 versus the cd version i have from the cd "crazy in the night (and other classic songs of love and loss)" issued as capitol cdll-57273(which by the way does says at the bottom "printed and manufactured in canada") and the version on that cd is identical to the vinyl 45, including very subtle guitar overdubs from 2:15 to 2:25.....so this cd entry should be revised to says "45 version"....

Shouldn't we confirm which mix was on the original vinyl LP before making a call as to whether CDs should have a "45 version" notation?

Ed didn't we determine that there is no differnce between the LP version and the 45 version?

yes, as far as i knew, but it was discussed earlier in this thread that there was differences somewhere, which i couldn't discern.....i would agree the cd version from "barking" is the same as the 45 version......i have no other cd to compare the vinyl 45 to....
