Pat, I know that you often omit "dub" and "a capella" versions included on promo CD singles, and I can see the sense in that. In 1987, my station played cut THREE of the promo CD single for this (ESK 2808). And since the listed/actual timings for this track are a little off here, I'm gonna just go ahead and list the entire promo CD single's full details here:
1-Dance Extended Mix; Includes "False Fade" (listed time 8:24; actual time 8:21)
2-7" Single Mix (listed and actual 4:05)
3-Dance Remix Radio Edit (listed 4:50; actual 4:54)
4-Dub Version (listed and actual 4:05)
5-A Cappella (listed and actual 3:49)

Jim's helpful promo CD single info for Michael Jackson's "Bad" has been incorporated into the database. I thought it might be useful to add that commercial 45 copies have an actual and printed run time of 4:05. (Timing info courtesy of abagon.)

Brian W. reported the following for "Bad" in the Michael Jackson - the 45 versions on CD thread:
The single was a different mix from the LP version, the most obvious difference being the single's lack of the LP's horn blasts on the first two choruses ("You know I'm bad -- bad, bad [horn]), really, really bad"). Those horns don't come in until the final chorus on the single version.
The database currently doesn't have 45/LP version notations for "Bad". Meanwhile, I notice the song on my copy of the Bad album CD doesn't have the horn blasts on the first two choruses, so it looks like the 45 version was substituted on later pressings. Does anyone have an CD pressing containing the original LP version?

The original CD pressing has a run time of 4:07 for the song "Bad," and I also
have a copy.

Thank you, gentlemen! It looks like this is another case where the 45 version of a Michael Jackson single becomes adopted as the definitive "standard" version (i.e. "Rock with You", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You") while the LP version gets swept into the ash heap of history without hardly a trace. (Fortunately, we have highly knowledgeable "music curators" on message board forums like this one to help keep the record straight!)
