Though not listed in the database, the stock 45 is labeled as 'single edit'. Listed and actual time is 4:10.

I just found this promo single that claims there was a "Special Radio Edit" on one side and the "Single Edit" on the other side... both listed as running the identical 4:10 length!
Were there actually two versions of this song (perhaps the radio edit with words edited out) on the promo, or was this an attempt to get radio to think they were getting something "special" so they'd be more likely to give it a listen?
Also, does anybody know if the single version (or special radio edit) has shown up on CD? The full (album?) version is listed as running 4:40 - 4:45.

There are, indeed, two versions on that promo 7”. The single edit,
which I believe is also on the commercial 7”, has been issued on CD a
couple times. It is definitely on Album Network Top 40 CD Tune Up #3.
If I recall correctly, it’s also on a Canadian V/A compilation, but I’ll have
to look through my CDs to figure out which one.
The Special Radio Edit has alternate lyrics in a few places, and I seem
to recall the mix being just a tad different when doing an A/B. Any mix
differences are very subtle, though. If I had to guess, Kool Moe Dee
probably punched in the handful of alternate lines on the multi tracks
and then a mix was done. This would explain the very minor mix
differences.

Here's the Canadian comp where the single edit is located: https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Dance-Album/release/5564 670. It's certainly not cheap these days!

Yikes, pricy for one CD. I think my file is just a 45 dub
since I recall there being a number of edits.

With Aaron's help I've been able to confirm the single is identical with some very minor lyric changes. Those changes are documented below, original line followed by radio edit, changed word in bold:
--
"Get wild, but they don't fight, they KILL At the"
"Get wild, but they don't fight, they CHILL At the"
--
"I was smooth, until someone pulled A GUN"
"I was smooth, until someone pulled OUT"
--
"Saying 'Why in the heck won't somebody KILL them?'"
"Saying 'Why in the heck won't somebody CHILL them?'"
--
"GUNS, we don't like to use them"
"WEAPONS, we don't like to use them"
--
So, four changes, five words, everything removed seem so inoffensive compared to what can be played on the radio today, lol.

Yes, and also, it definitely is a different mix. The opening piano has a different echo. Also, the first vocal ("the wild wild west") comes in before the drums start on the Single Edit but is missing from the Special Radio Edit.
