Pat, that new database is FAN-TASTIC! I love it! I'll be sending my annual subscription when I get home from work tonight.

Outstanding job, Pat! This is by far the coolest searchable music database on the web.

Thanks to all the chat board members that contributed tidbits of information over the past year. I think I have included all discrepencies and additions but if the energizer bunny (Todd Ireland) is up to the task of going through the database again he will probably come up with a few oversights and more additions I am sure. As a bonus for those that helped put the new electronic version together, I will be leaving it posted for free for a while so Brian, don't send any money in yet!
If you have any search questions or comments, feel free to contact me or post your questions on this chat board.

Pat:
I just discovered the new database on the main webpage and this is PHENOMENAL stuff!! Incredible work, Pat! Good grief, I'm supposed to be cramming for my Series 7 exam and this free database access isn't helping!

Doug:
Just scroll up to the very top of this web page and click the black box in the upper left hand corner where it says: Click here return to the main site. Then when you get to the main web page, click the "Top 40 Music on CD" option and you'll be in business.

I'm afraid I can't find it either--when I go to "Top 40 Music on CD", it
only refers to the 10th Edition book. I can't find any database
reference.

And that's the problem I'm having as well. Even clearing my browser cache didn't help.
It's always possible I'm screwing up somewhere. So if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to share.

Hmmm... Have you guys tried retyping the www.top40musiconcd.com web address in your browser and clicking "Go"? That'll of course take you to the main page. From there, you should be able to click the "Top 40 Music on CD" option which contains the new database.

I am puzzled by this so could you tell me what operating system you are using. Give me as much information as you can and I will turn it over to my programmer or better yet I will have him contact you.

OK, I think I may have figured it out. When I use AOL to access the page and the main site, I don't get the database. However, when I typed www.top40musiconcd.com into my IE browser, I got it.
Must be an AO-Hell issue. :) As for my operating system, I have Windows XP.

I am using Apple, then to Yahoo! search--the section on the main
page still reads "Top 40 Music on CD (The Book)" and only goes to
the ad for the book.

The new site looks great.
I do have one question. Will I be able to access this database if I am not connected to the internet?
One of the ways that Pat's book has come in handy to me is, as a DJ, when I am asked for a particular song, I often reference the book to determine which CD I have that particular song on.
I would love to be able to save the database on my computer and bring my laptop to my gigs. Will this be possible?

No, there will be no way to save the database on your computer as this would quickly lead to piracy.

What about selling an annual disc? I know that Promo Only has a disc that you can get with their database.
To be able to have access to database while mobile (you can't always get wireless internet access) is extremely valuable to me as well as other DJ's that I know who have been using Pat's book over the years.
I really really hope that something can be done about this.
Thanks

I think it's a valid point. I used to mobile DJ for years, and having that information handy would be excellent. In support of Pat's piracy concern, selling a CD-ROM would be no different than making the database downloadable to your PC. You could easily burn copies of the disc for all your friends if you really wanted to. HOWEVER, to support Fetta's reasoning, I could just as easily give away my user name and password to all my friends so they could have access to the database after I paid for it.
The main thing is that a majority of the people who post here are big supporters of what Pat Downey has put together, and we're all more than willing to support the cause. I don't think anyone of us would hesitate to pay the money, and personally, I would recommend it to others and tell them that it's worth the low cost to have access.
If piracy is still truly a concern, perhaps Pat could make it available for sale upon request and just not advertise the fact that a CD or downloadable file is available.

I agree with aaronk on all of us being supporters of Pat's services and I don't want to sound ungrateful to the service that Pat has been providing to all of us over the years.
Is there a way to put some sort of protection on a CD-ROM so it can be downloaded once and then it is so longer valid.
I dont want to beat a dead horse with this issue but to be able to travel with this database is the most important value to me and others that I know.
Any other ideas?

HEY!
I just saw the new online database! Hallelujah! I thought of asking Pat about maybe doing something like this for a subscription, as it would be so much more practical than buying a new book every year, especially for those of us who are $$$ challenged. Wow, and always having updated info just a click away. That, combined with this chat board is the ultimate collectors reference and community.
