Given the recent discussion of the Jellybean remix/edit of "Let's Hear It For the Boy," I'm wondering what other exclusive promo 12" versions were serviced to radio. For instance, I just noticed the promo 12" of "Ghostbusters" has a "Short Version" listed with remix credits.

Others I know of for sure include:

Pablo Cruise - Whatcha Gonna Do (Special Disco Version)
Nicolette Larson - Lotta Love (Disco Stereo Mix)
Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good (Special Edited Version)
John Lennon - (Just Like) Starting Over (22 seconds longer than 45/LP)
Rod Stewart - Da Ya Think I'm Sexy
Bee Gees / Saturday Night Fever disco versions

Please feel free to add to the list...

I worked at my college radio station from 1984-88 and we got A LOT of promo 12" singles from the various record labels. A couple I played a lot were "Out Of Mind Out Of Sight (Extended Dance Mix)" by The Models and "Dancing In The Dark (Blaster Mix)" by Bruce Springsteen. I'm sure there were many others that I can't recall off the top of my head.

Absolutely. The CHR in my area played a lot of remixes and 12" mixes
during the mid-'80s. What I was actually wondering, though, if there
were some only-released-to-radio versions on promo 12" singles. The
"Dancing..." remix was available on a commercial single, too, if it's the
mix I'm thinking of.

Are you specifically thinking about the '80s? By the early '90s, it was pretty commonplace for labels to service 12" singles with promo-only remixes, sometimes with 2-3 discs worth of remixes. By the '90s, promo vinyl was mainly destined for mixshows and clubs, but the 12" packs (and their corresponding CD singles) often had radio edits of the remixes.

Good point, Eric, and yes, I was mainly thinking pre-'90s, including '70s, like the examples I listed above. Basically, what I'm getting at is that we've done a very thorough job of documenting exclusive promo versions on 45s--edits, remix/edits, remixes--but we rarely discuss promo 12" singles that had versions of songs found nowhere else. There really might not be very many, but I figured someone might know of a few that they picked up over the years. The Nicolette Larson disco mix, for example, is a really great version that I would not have known about if it hadn't been for Jim pointing it out to me several years ago.
