in the usa...but on ebay there are a few cd compilations
from canada which contain the song......does anyone have
the song on one of these cds and is it a factory issued cd
and is the song dubbed from vinyl?

any direction would be welcomed...thx edtop40

All issues of this track to my knowledge (and a fellow Canadian collector
well-versed in CAD band reissues) are from vinyl. The best sounding is from
this CD: http://www.amazon.com/One-Tin-Soldier-BEST-
OF/dp/B0009V1G44.

Ed,

I have this on a "Made in Canada" cd. Will check if it sounds like it
came from a Vinyl source.

Fetta: It does. very poor sound on that "Made in Canada" CD - my original
LP is better.

I am at work so I don't have the CD in front of me...... but I did go on
Amazon and listened to the sample on the site...... I couldn't tell from the
sample if it was from vinyl or not but it didn't sound that bad to me (but I
hostly am not the best judge of sound quality)..,.

David..... how would you value the rest of sound quality on that series?

I think there's some re-recordings out there too.

In general, the Made in Canada series I would rate "mixed". Some songs
sound great, others poor. It's a fact that much Canadian music simply has
not made it to CD (sad). This series DID bring some otherwise unavailable
tracks to CD, but not necessarily in the best sound quality.

There exist two different series of Canadian music CDs with very similar names.

One is a four volume series titled Made in Canada - Our Rock 'n' Roll History. This is a legitimate series issued by RCA/BMG Canada. I don't have the specific volume containg "One Tin Soldier", which is Volume 2, but in the notes to the volume I do have, the compilers state that they encountered two obstacles in their quest to include songs from smaller labels: finding the tapes and determining who actually owned the rights to the recordng. As a result, many of these songs are mastered from vinyl.

The second series is a ten volume series titled Only in Canada - Our Rock 'n' Roll History. This series is of highly, highly questionable legitamacy. I love this series, though, since it must contain at least a hundred Canadian Top 40 hits that simply aren't available anywhere else. The vast majority of songs are mastered from vinyl. I've just listened to "One Tin Soldier", which is on Volume 7, and to my surprise I do not detect any surface noise (although my hearing isn't what it used to be). Some volumes of this series seem to be harder to find than others; there are a couple I still haven't been able to find. The first eight or nine volumes of this series were initially released under the title "Vintage Canadian Music" with inserts that were so primitive they looked like they were made on a 1982 word processor.

The "One Tin Soldier" album (with a number of bonus tracks) was issued on CD in Japan a few years ago. This is the CD for which David provided the amazon link. (I don't believe "Best Of" is part of the title.) I've been tempted to buy this rather pricey CD but have resisted because one of their four Canadian Top 40 hits, "Sault Ste. Marie" isn't on it.

Is "Mr Monday" on it as well? Every download I find has TERRIBLE wow and flutter and tape hiss on the end fade.

The odd thing is the Canadian CD issues of this sound more noisy than my T-A US 45.
