This early 1963, soundalike-clone to "Runaround Sue", for which my
commercial 45 is confirmed as Smash 1791, has a listed time of (2:06) and
an actual time of (2:05). This time includes a "much-longer-than-usual-
fade" than for other songs that were out around this time. This fact probably
explains why all current database CDs that include this song run shorter than
the 45 does, at between 1:59 and 2:02. At some point, some CD mastering
engineer must've hastened/dumped the fade out early, and now they're all
that way!

Following up on this post, the new "Hard To Find" CD has this song running
2:00. The HitsArchive guy on YouTube, who is pretty reliable for getting 45s
correct, has his fade at 1:59.

Digging further, I found this (if you can bear a listen to it, it runs a bit slower
- could be a fault of the turntable - however there IS more audio at the end
than the common versions and it has a long, drawn-out fade, just like Jim
stated).

So, seems there were two pressings of this 45? Or, like Jim mentioned, at
some point the 45 was faded early, and we've been subject to that ever
since. Anyone have a 45 to check?

Well, I can narrow it down to what you DON'T want. I have the Smash 'Timepieces' reissue 872-846-2 with 'Patches'
on the other side, and even though the label time says 2:06, It times in at 2:01. The label says MONO, but in
reality, it's slightly re-channeled with echo. The 'Timepieces' that were released in the mid to late 80's by
Polygram were mostly really interesting, but this one was disappointing. I think Polygram went to the album masters
in this case rather than look for a mono single, they pulled this one out of the vaults. -Bill.

That's interesting. I have the "All Time Smash Hits"
reissue 45 that was in print in the late 1970s/early
1980s (S-1406) and it's mono and runs 2:05.

Paul C, interesting...are you able to dub your 45? Seems us collectors are in
need of it! :)

I've uploaded it to Youtube (it's not in great shape)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGt-GVvPFK0

My Youtube channel has lots of mid and low charting
Canadian songs, if anyone's interested:

(After fifteen years on the board, I still haven't
figured out how to properly post a link.)
