What is the actual time for the short 45 version of the
1976 disco remake of "Baby Face" by Wing & A Prayer Fife &
Drum Corps.? I think there is a three 1/2 minute version
and a six 1/2 minute version (or there abouts). I have a
version on CDR from a decade back that runs (3:29) and is
clipped before it completely fades. I'm surprised this
never showed up on a Rhino disc decades ago if it was
originally on the Warner/Atlantic family of labels.

Santi,
I have a 2nd hand dub of the 45... sounds like it has an
actual time of 3:32.
I too am surprised this never made a CD, even one of those
Rhino disco volumes.
This glitzy, chorus-line type disco was never my favorite,
but this did chart pretty high to never appear on CD.

Interesting! There may be more than one 45 version, then, because the 45 dub I have (which I dubbed firsthand on my turntable) runs 3:14. The LP version, which I also have a dub of, runs 6:36. Unfortunately, I no longer have the 45 to post the runout groove info (at least, I don't think I do). I also cannot say for certain that the copy I dubbed was a stock copy. It may have been a promo.

I have a gold label 45 with two versions: One side has a "Special Long Version" stamp on it. The stamp looks like an ink stamp, however, it is part of the printed label and not done afterward. This side has a listed time of 6:38 and an actual time of 6:36. It has a deadwax number of ST-HS-31367-2.
The flip side has a listed time of 3:34 and an actual time of 3:32. It has a deadwax number of ST-HS-31368-1. The label number is HS-103. I don't think it's a promo, it doesn't state that anywhere on the label.

I have Made in UK 45 with Side A labeled "Short version" with a listed time of 3:14; 3:12 actual Deadwax number K10705 A1. The flip side is labeled "Disco Version" and has a listed time of 6:38; 6:26 actual. Deadwax number K10705 B1. Label number is K 10705 (HS-103). This is on the Atlantic label.

My blue-label, stereo/stereo DJ 45 is listed as 3:15 on both sides. Matrix number is ST-HS-31347-4.

Tom: your gold-label 45 is the stock copy. I picked up five stock copies at the local WEA office to increase the odds that at least one of them was clean enough for airplay (seeing as they're all Plastic Products pressings.) Indeed, the "special long version" stamp is part of the printed label, as they're all identically positioned on all five of my stocks.

Thanks Tom & John! I probably dubbed my short copy from the promo 45. In fact, I'm pretty sure had the same short stereo version on both sides. My "long version" was definitely dubbed from the LP.

Pat, would you please add the run time notes in the database?

LP (and "Special Long Version") runs 6:36
stock 45 runs 3:32
promo 45 runs 3:14

All good info. One more question then. Is the promo 45 an early fade of
the commercial 45?

Santi: yes, it's just an early fade (from 3:08 to 3:14.) Speed-wise, the DJ 45 runs about 0.365 of a second slower than the short stock side.

While searching for this hard-to-find hit, I stumbled across the short promo (3:14) version on iTunes. Sound
quality is quite good. If it's a vinyl dub, it's very clean.

Just thought I'd pass this info along.

Yeah, that's official, from Atlantic. A single called "Baby Face (Edit)". Doesn't seem to be on Qobuz or 7Digital yet, but it's on the Tidal store. (Won't let me purchase, though -- I keep getting an
error message "Something went wrong.")

EDIT: Tidal got back to me... "No longer available for purchase," they say.
