Hey there - has anyone else seen this website? It has a different page for every month from January 1955 through December 1985 with the top ten hits of that month. (I'm not sure how they determined what the biggest hits of each month were.) It has a picture of the 45 label plus a link to play each song. It's pretty cool and I thought I'd share it with everyone. At the very least it's an easy way to check the stated play times of the big hits of those 30 years.

Great site. I love looking at the labels. Unfortunately the audio files are not the true 45 versions.

Thanks for the link, Frank. I had a good laugh when I clicked randomly on one of that site's buttons:

Back in 1975, I stopped in at the local Columbia branch office to pick up a new copy of Michael Murphey's "Wildfire" 45, because the promo copy that came in the mail actually played the Carpenters' "Please, Mr. Postman" / "This Masquerade" instead. The Columbia rep laughed when I related the story and topped it: he said a number of jukebox operators were mighty surprised - as were the customers who dropped coins in the machines - to find that their copies of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" actually played the Ohio Players' "Fire." Whoops!

Hence the laugh when I clicked on that site's February 1975 button and saw that the label shown for the Ohio Players' "Fire" was actually that of a certain Crazy World Of Arthur Brown hit instead. Double whoops!

Just for grins, I clicked on a 2:00 45, which downloaded very slowly. It was Kai Winding's "More" from August, 1963, and was, indeed, the correct mono 45.

Frank, your recent links have been very cool. I couldn't help but look at all these 45's photos and think they would be cool to download for my ipod photos of the songs (if I hadn't already done all the album cover photos). I still might download the pics anyway.

Gordon, in iTunes I always use the 45 label (or the picture sleeve, if one was manufactures) for single versions of songs that have not appeared in that form on CD. I love watching the labels come up as the songs play. I used to always know which label a hit was on because of the distinct 45 labels of the 1970s and 1980s. Now with everything digital, I have a hard time remember which labels artists record for.
