Things were going so well for me, I was comparing the copy of the DJ edit of Genesis's "Mama" that I have from "Turn It On Again The Hits (1999)" and the copy of the DJ edit of Genesis's "Mama" that I have from "Turn It On Again The Tour Edition (2007)"...
I noticed for whatever reason the version from the "Tour Edition" was more dynamic / less brickwalled and I thought that would be the one I'd want in my library, but JUST to make sure they are identical, I'll sum them to mono and do an A/B comparison...
...and suddenly, at 4:45, the ad-libs from Phil Collins take off from each other in opposite directions... *SIGH*
My suspicion now is that one is the actual DJ edit while the other is likely a failed attempt to recreate the DJ edit... but I have no idea which is which.
Here's what each does at approx. 4:45
--
1999: (starts on the "3" of 4, then each line starts on approximately "1.")
Cha, no, no, no, no, no, don't
go, ha-ha,
don't go,
ha-ha,
ha, ow,no, no, no,
don't go,
don't let me down(?),
don't go,
don't go!
2007: Mom, mama don't
go,
no, don't go,
Cha, no, no, no, no, no, don't
go, ha-ha,
don't go
Ha-ha, ha,
ow No, no don't go
don't let me down(?),
don't go!
--
Writing this out, it looks a little like the 2007 version left in one earlier ad-lib, and faded earlier to match the length.
Does anyone have the promo 45 for this song to compare and determine which edit is accurate to the radio release?

Based on that, my vote goes to the 1999 version.

Your suspicion is correct - the 2007 Edition of Turn It On Again features Nick Davis' remixes of all tracks on disc 1, except for 'The Carpet Crawlers 1999'. So all the edits contained therein are remixed recreations.

Agreed, the 1999 version.

One more reason to hate the Nick Davis remixes/recreations!

Those remixes are truly atrocious. Hang on to those old Atlantic compact discs for dear life.
