Here's another edit to drive us crazy... I have the 12" promo single of "Take Me With U" by Prince which lists the time as 3:52, but it's actually an edit that runs 3:42. The edit is at 3:13 and can be easily spotted when comparing with the LP version.
Since many of the Prince 12" promo singles had the 45 edits on them, I would have to guess that this is the same version as the 7" 45 single. Can anyone verify that the 45 is also an edit of the LP version and runs 3:42?

Hmm, I can't verify, but I'd be interested to know that, too.
BTW, did y'all know that the 45 edit of "Little Red Corvette" is available on CD, on the US BackTrax CD single? I don't know if it's still in print, but it's not hard to find. It runs 3:08, and is coupled on the disc with the single edit of "1999." I've had one for years, but I just picked up an extra copy at Tower Records for list price, $3.99. UPC is 0 7599-21881-2 8.

I can verify that the vinyl 45 of "Take Me With U" runs 3:40 even though the record label states 3:52 and is edited from the LP version at 3:13.

Brian - didn't know that about "Little Red Corvette." I didn't think the song was actually edited. I thought they just cut the first few seconds off (where 1999 segues into it) and faded it early. Are there other edit points in the middle?

Aaron, I don't know, I'm afraid -- I don't have the LP version. (I only have the other volume of Prince's "The Hits.")

The LP version is the one on The Hits cd, except on the actual LP of 1999 the song "1999" segues into "Little Red Corvette." For The Hits, they cropped off the first four seconds where "Little Red Corvette" is fading in and "1999" is fading out.
So, if the 45 version starts the same as it does on The Hits, but starts fading around 2:55, then there aren't really any edits in the song--just an early fade of the LP version.
