Pat:

One of the features I really like about your book is that you frequently make note of "DJ edits" whenever they exist. Being a former disc jockey, I like to collect hits from 1955-1999 on CD exactly as they were presented on Top 40 radio.

I notice though that your book doesn't list as many radio edit comments for hits from the late '80s and '90s. For instance, I have a DJ CD copy of "Let's Make a Night to Remember" by Bryan Adams (catalog no.: A&M CDP 00283) that runs considerably shorter than the 45 and LP version. But many readers may have no way of knowing this edit exists since it isn't acknowledged in your book and has never been made available on a commercial CD.

For the benefit of those of us who also like to collect DJ edits for late '80s and '90s singles, is it possible you could make a special note of these edits, even it these edits aren't currently available on a commercial CD release? For example, the Bryan Adams single could be footnoted something like this:

1996 LET'S MAKE A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
(DJ copies of this single contain a radio edit that runs 4:35.)

I happen to own dozens of promo DJ CD singles of Top 40 hits from the late '80s and '90s, and many of these discs contain official radio edits that aren't mentioned or acknowledged in your book. I'd be more than happy to list the actual run times for each of these DJ edits that I have and can list each promo CD's catalog number for verification purposes. I can also make note of any significant discrepencies between the listed run times and the actual run times (I'll listen to each song individually and measure the run time carefully, down to the exact second).

Does this sound like a good idea to you, Pat? If so, would you rather I start listing these promo CDs here on the message board for all board members to see (it could end up being a fairly lengthy list), or just e-mail the list directly to you?

I would love to have any additional information that is not mentioned in the book. You might as well post your information on this chat board so that all forum members can be made aware of the edits that you have. I will transfer them from the chat board to my database for the 11th edition.

One more question regarding the promo CDs I have... Would you like me to list run times strictly for radio edits only, or run times for all tracks that appear on each promo CD, including LP versions? Part of the challenge with promo CDs, as opposed to DJ vinyl 45s, is that some discs are bogged down with a plethera of remixes that were seldom played on Top 40 radio and could be cumbersome to list them all in the book. If you'd like, I could print the actual contents of each promo CD that I have and then leave it up to you to determine which radio edit and radio remix run times are worthy of being included in the book. (I can even include my personal opinions and comments on what I consider to be the "official" Top 40 DJ edits.) Let me know what you prefer and I'll start posting accordingly on the board.

Why don't you list all mixes for now along with your opinion of which was the official top 40 dj edit. I certainly agree with your comment on dj vinyl 45's vs cd singles.
