is there any difference between the 45 version and the album version of this song, say perhaps the 45 in mono???
times seem to be similar...

Jrjr, like "Layla", "Lucky Man" had two separate Billboard chart runs, but unlike "Layla", it reached the Top 40 in NEITHER of its chart runs. Initially entering in March '71, it peaked at #48. Then, it re-entered during the last week of '72, peaking this time at #51. Largely due to these low peak positions, "Lucky Man" is currently not in Pat's database, but I can answer your questions nonetheless. My commercial 45 IS in mono, has a listed time of (4:36), but an actual time of (4:33). My CD has a listed and actual time of (4:36) - sounds to me like the 45 was slightly sped up. I also have two promo copies for this; one vinyl and one styrene. Both feature a "short version" on both sides, with a listed time of (3:33). One side is stereo (the actual time is 3:35), and the other mono (actual time is the listed (3:33)). 90%+ of the keyboard ending is cut from the DJ short version, with the 45's fade beginning right at the start of it. Perhaps this is where you may remember a shorter version of the song, Jrjr.

i do remember "lucky man" being played on our local AM station, probably on its first release in 1971... although i am a bit vague on the version, i do recall they played it an awful lot, so maybe it was more of a local hit than a national hit... whatever happened to "local" hits, anyway???

They disappeared about the same time locally-owned radio stations did. :(
