It has been a while since our last post, but Varese Vintage has been
working diligently to come up with some great releases.

September 9, 2008

John Phillips “Pussycat” 302 066 903 2 (CD)
The never before released album recorded with The Rolling Stones (15
tracks). Six tracks are previously unreleased.

This project was the last major creative effort by John Phillips before his
drug arrest in 1980. Various original and duplicate multitrack and mix
tapes were stored, lost and found again, and some trickled out over the
next three decades in the form of bootlegs. As John put it, the tapes
“had a life force of their own!” Just before his passing in 2001, John
assembled and released an overdubbed, re-engineered and remixed
version of some of the shelved material on an album called “Pay, Pack
and Follow.” At the time unaware of the location of the album masters of
the original 1978 mixes. Those original album masters were not found
until 2003.

The original 1978 album mix is released for the first time, so here, at
last, is the album as John originally intended it to be.

Bing Crosby
Crosby Classics: Songs From His Famous Radio Broadcasts 302 066 905
2

The “Crosby Classics” on this album are live versions from Bing’s radio
broadcasts. Some of the performances are similar to the way Bing
recorded them, sometimes he gives a song a slightly different treatment,
and in some cases these songs feature interesting duet partners.

Features duets with The Andrews Sisters, Peggy Lee, Jane Wyman, and
Rosemary Clooney.

Includes four tracks rarely found on any Bing Crosby collection,
featuring live versions of Bing’s hits never before available.

Mastered from original source materials for excellent sound quality.

Gladys Knight And The Pips Greatest Hits 1973-1985
302 066 920 2

This is the first comprehensive Gladys Knight & The Pips hits collection
to ever cover their hit-laden Buddah/Columbia Years when they tracked
up five #1 hits, including “Midnight Train To Georgia,” “Best Thing That
Ever Happened To Me” and “I’ve Got To Use My Imagination.”

All selections are presented in their hard-to-find original single
versions. Most of these tracks have never appeared on CD.

Roy Clark Timeless: The Classic Concert Performances!
302 066 909 2

This collection is compiled from Roy Clark’s two classic live albums from
the 70s, “Roy Clark Live!,” and “In Concert.”

These recordings, have been unavailable for almost 30 years, and are on
CD for the first time ever.

The release features two tracks with Buck Trent on banjo. Buck is a
popular performer in his own right and is acknowledged as one of the
best banjo players in country music history.

Lotta great upcoming material, but am especially looking forward to Gladys Knight And The Pips Greatest Hits 1973-1985 for the 45 versions.

Any chance there is a track listing for The Very Best of White Whale Records, Vol. Two” ?

We are still working on the track list for White Whale Vol. Two. We had to
leave the Turtles off of Vol. One on iTunes, because we do not control their
masters.

Is this upcoming Gladys Knight & the Pips compilation going to contain any 45 versions that haven't already appeared elsewhere on CD?
