This comes to us from abagon... The actual commercial 45 run time of Chris DeBurgh's "The Lady in Red" is 4:13, not 4:16 as stated on the record label. Database CDs containing this song all run in the 4:10-4:15 range, except one... On the 1985 - Only Love - 1989 CD (JCI 3186), the database shows the song with a time of only 4:03. Is this shorter time due to an early fade, an edit, or something else?

It's an early fade. That JCI series of discs all have 20 tracks, and they occasionally do an early fade to cram everything on there.
There's a similar early fade on UK's 2-CD Now 1986, but with a different mastering. Probably faded for the same reason, although I don't know how long the UK single runs.
Best compilations for this song are Billboard Top Hits 1987 and Forever '80s. Both sound quite nice.
