Besides the two listings Pat has in his guide, there is another CD that
has "Battle Hymn Of The Republic": The Lord's Prayer
(Collectables 5808/Sony Products #A 26940), the re-issue of the
MTC's #1 album from 1959. The song times out to 4:38. However,
the 45 version is an edit of the LP version that times out to 3:08, and
is in mono (I have the original 45). I have not found the single
version on any CD, so the listings for this song should all read "LP
version." As you can tell, I've been rocking at my house!

Ah yes you are correct Paul and this pointed out an error in the database because the two stereo listings are both rerecordings.

According to their official site, the CD "Super Hits, Vol. 1" contains the track "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as it was on their 1959 LP "The Lord's Prayer". Timing indicated as 4:47. Do you know if this is indeed the LP version from 1959?

I can't say for certain that it would be the same version, but I bet it
is, because both CDs have Sony sources (the MTC's original record
company). I think the time listed is a mistake, as my copy has a
built-in 5-second space between songs. Besides, it says it's the
original version on their website discography, and the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir wouldn't lie, would they?!?

Hi Paul,
regarding this "rockin'" track, I believe I now have perhaps the version from "The Lord's Prayer", and it is not the same as the one I'd mentioned earlier from "The Super Hits".
The "The Super Hits" is in stereo running 4:46 and begins with more orchestral-sounding "low, heavy" horns: "bomp... bomp... bompbompbomp" before it gets into the "lighter" sounding horn tooting a melody of sorts while my most recent version I have in mono AND stereo and begins with :08 of a march-sounding drumming at low volume followed by the tooting and runs 4:38.
Paul, is your version from "The Lord's Prayer" stereo or mono? Pat indicates mono, but the sound samples on the Net are stereo.
BTW, I would LOVE a dub of your 45 to compare it with what I think I have as a 45 dub. My "Pop Annual" states a run time of 3:11 while you indicate that you timed to 3:08. What does the 45 state?
thanks!

The CD version from The Lord's Prayer is in stereo, and starts
with drums before going into the horns. The CD/LP version has a
26-second intro, while the 45 has a 12-second intro. The original
45 has no time listed, but the re-issue 45's time is listed at 3:07. I'll
send a copy of the 45 version to you as soon as I can.
