My commercial 45, confirmed as Columbia 42601 with machine-stamped deadwax info of "ZSP-58182-1J", has no listed time and an actual time of (2:07). I only post this info because the three current database CDs that include this song (all stereo) have actual times :04 seconds longer, at exactly (2:11). The 45 I just played sounded sped up vs. the CD versions I also own. To my ears, they are the same recording. But the point has been made before that a :04 speed difference for a song that is just over 2 minutes in length would be considered "extreme" to the ears, and it did not sound that way to me. My best guess is that the string section end to the song may have been truncated by a second or two during preparation of the mono 45 version.

jim, as far as i can tell it's purely a pitch issue....the
ending strings sound the same to me.....and, to my ears,
the pitch is definitely noticeable....but then again, i've
been review so many 45's the last few weeks, that i've
gotten pretty good at spotting even the slightest pitch
deviation....

Ed is correct that there a very noticeable pitch
difference between the 45 and previous CD releases. Now,
I had assumed that it was an LP/45 difference.

But I found that the original 1962 Columbia LP which was
called "Winners" has a listed time of (2:08) which would
match the 45 speed. However, on the Columbia LP "Greatest
Hits" the listed time is (2:12) which closely matches all
the CD entries at that pitch. I assume the slower speed
is the original session speed.

So can anyone who owns these 2 Columbia LPs chime in with
the actual times?

If those above times are correct, then the DB entries
should read either "(Columbia 'Greatest Hits' LP Speed)"
or "(45 and original LP speed)" ... there is one entry
that would get that comment.

I timed "Go Away Little Girl" on my mono copy of the
Winners album at (2:07).
