Doing a careful listen to the 45 vs. LP version of "Run Runaway," and the 45 cannot be edited from the LP. There is a guitar overdub on the intro that is either not present or barely audible on the LP version. The rest of the song seems to be the same.
Also, are there any versions on CD that aren't extremely hissy?

A long, long time ago, I did what I thought was an easy edit of the LP version to recreate the - didn't realize there were any overdubs added to the 45 version, though.
The version off the original Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply CD (is that the right title?) was hissy. All the others I've heard use the same analog transfer, and sound just like it.

The other audible mix difference between the LP and 45 is
a prominent, repeated drum during the guitar intro
section on the LP version; this fill is omitted on the
45. There is a brief snippet of the guitar riff without
the extra drum fill at 3:20 on the LP version. I tried
copying that to the intro section and repeating it, but
it never sounded right. I ultimately gave up trying to
recreate the 45 version from the LP due to this mix
difference.
The best sounding 45 version that I have heard on CD is
on an import called The Slade Collection 87-87. It
sounds like a pretty faithful transfer of the 45 tape
without level boosting, harsh eq, etc.

Dittos, Roscoe! I too always thought the 45 version was simply an edit of the LP version and am now enlightened to learn that it's not. This is why this message board is the best of its kind on the planet! And I'm glad to know the correct 45 version appears on an import CD because I've always thought this shorter edit is much tighter and far superior to its more-widely-available-on-CD LP version counterpart.
Speaking of Slade... My wife and I were with a group of friends at a gathering last night where we played a music trivia game. I was stunned to learn that Slade had recorded the original version of "Cum on Feel the Noize" in 1973, a song that was covered 10 years later and turned into a huge U.S. heavy metal smash by Quiet Riot. After all this time I never knew the latter version was a remake!

You're making me feel like the fossil that I am! :) When it was a current, I played the Slade 45 at every opportunity during my college radio days. It may have been a little lacking in the bass department, but it sure sounded great on carrier-current AM.

Huzzah! And let's give Cold Blood's "You Got Me Hummin'" a spin, too. ;)
Come to think of it, that's why Slade's "Noize" sounded so good. The 60-cycle carrier-current hum was the bass. :)

Did you mean to say the import CD is called The Slade Collection 81-87? The reason I'm asking for clarification here is because there also exists a more recent Slade import CD compilation called The Collection 79-87.
