Hey everyone.
1977 was a great year for music and just like the 1980's Hot 100 I have assembled a need list. Because Pat's database is only Top 40 there is no reference to find some of these hit 45 versions that charted below position #40.
Just like the 80's I would figure I would put this out here in hopes that others on the board might know of or be able to point to where on CD or digital these 45 versions are.
Everyone was very helpful with the 1980's assembly my hope is we can get a couple of these off the list. Thanks in advance for your contributions.

I know of three on the list:
1. Never My Love - Addrissi Brothers (3:28). It was included on the Reader's Digest box set 20 Years Of Solid Gold Groups: 1960-1979.
2. Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love) - O'Jays (3:03). This one appears on the import CD The Very Best Of The O'Jays.
This CD has a total of 21 tracks including "Love Train" twice (the hit three minute version and the extended version that runs over six minutes that first appeared on a 1977 various artists LP).
3. Neon Nites - Atlanta Rhythm Section (2:45). This mono 45 edit is on The Polydor Years (Box Set). This box did not include a stereo 45 edit for this song.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm just determined to get the entire Hot 100 eventually. Guess I will keep dreaming!

I believe this is a different edit than the 45. It is an
edit of the LP mix. It is in STEREO.
The commercial 45 was a stereo remix.

Great catch Andy. My ARS box set has the edit of "Neon
Nites" labeled as mono 45 edit. I need to change the note
on my file. Thanks!

Well, we REALLY need someone with a 45 to hear this unique 45 edit. One
would guess that they'd simply end the 45 at 2:44 of the LP where the song
"ends" (would be easy), but one never knows why certain choices are made
when they are made. 2:44 is also the 45 label printed time. And the box set
is simply the LP ended at 2:44.

Sadly, I don't own the 45.
However, I have an old dub of the 45 (presumably from
Hykker [S.O.]) that is a remix with an audibly different
drum track on the instrumental intro.

Does anybody know the difference between the album version
and the single of Orleans' "Reach"? I've tried to find it on
YouTube with no luck. Thanks in advance

Oh, yeah.
The 45 remains the same midtempo
throughout.
The original LP version kicks into a
double-time hoedown-styled rave-up.
Great, inspirational song to me. And I
told songwriter John Hall that when I
met him once in Albany.
Both versions are great, but I do like
the single's ending better.

287. Merle Haggard - From Graceland To The Promised Land
Lead track from the MCA album My Farewell To Elvis. The
LP version begins with a short spoken intro by Merle followed by
a synthesizer fanfare that transitions to the acoustic guitar song
intro. The single version starts with the guitar intro. So far all CD
versions are the LP version including the Bear Family box set
The Troubadour. To approximate the single version excise the
first 12 seconds of the LP version up to the first note of the
guitar intro. Note: Merle re-recorded the song in the mid-90's so
be beware of that version.
Here is the original MCA 45:

405: Dolly Parton - Light Of A Clear Blue Morning
Two RCA promo 45's were issued. One had the long version
[4:53] on one side and short version [3:16] on the other. Both
sides were STEREO. A second promo had the 4:53 version on
both sides - one side in STEREO & the other in MONO. The
stock 45 has the 4:53 version in STEREO. I recall that most
country stations programmed the short version however I do not
know what may have been played on pop radio.
So far the edited version has not been issued on CD. Dolly has
made at least three re-recordings of this song so beware of
those.
