It's my understanding that commercial cassette single copies of Tracie Spencer's "This House" contain both the LP version and a Radio Edit. Can anyone help shed some light as to what the exact track listings and run times are for commercial and/or DJ single copies?

Todd: A whopping 9-version promo CD single (DPRO-79409). There are no listed times; I have provided the actual times:

1-LP Version (5:03)
2-Radio Edit (4:46)
3-Instrumental (5:10)
4-Club Mix (7:28)
5-Vocal Remix (7:49)
6-7" Remix (4:40)
7-Space Dub (6:52)
8-Ambient Dub (6:37)
9-Drumapella (5:00)

We played cut #2 on our station.

Wow! Thanks, Jim! I'm pretty sure the Radio Edit and possibly the 7" Remix is what Armed Forces Radio played when I lived in Germany back in the early '90s.

It would be welcome if someone who owns a commercial single copy of "This House" can step forward and confirm its contents and run times as well. (Ed?)

Does anyone know if the Radio Edit of "This House" is an edit of the LP version?

The instrumental break at 2:25 is shortened a bit on the 'radio edit', I don't detect
anything else, so I'm betting on yes.

I have a CD single of "This House" that appears to be a US release. It has three tracks:

This House (Radio Edit) - 3:58
I Have A Song To Sing - 4:37
This House (Vocal Remix) - 7:50

The label number is CDCL 612.

The video is around 4 minutes. I always thought the :35 opening from the
"radio edit" on DPRO-79409 was a bit long. Is the "radio edit" on CDCL 612
edited down to match the video?

I don't have the ears of most of you, but the opening of the song appears to the same in the video and in the single version. I just watched the video on Youtube and the video starts with 3-4 seconds of silence before the music kicks in. Tracie starts singing at the 0:21 mark, and on the single version her singing starts at 0:18.

I'm a little confused by this one, as there seems to be two songs with different lengths called "Radio Edit."

The "Radio Edit" that's the second track on the cassette single (Capitol 44652) -- and I'm assuming the second track on the 9-track promo mentioned above? -- is essentially the LP version with one edit and an early fade (to recreate, remove 2:29.75 to 2:38.3, then start the fade around 4:41 and ending by 4:50 or so...the end of the fade is rather abrupt on the cassingle because the third track begins right there).

If the "Radio Edit" that's on the CD single (CDCL 612) matches the video, then there are a number of edits that can be made to the ~4:50 (long) "Radio Edit" to recreate the video/short "Radio Edit" (all edit times are based on the long "Radio Edit," and aren't adjusted as you edit):

Remove:
0:13.35 to 0:21.9,
0:25.5 to 0:34.05,
3:00.1 to 3:16.7 (this edit needs to go on the pick-up half-beat to include the drum machine snare between beats 3 and 4), and
3:53.75 to 4:10.9

The final run time is indeed about 3:58.

Is it safe to conclude that, due to the release of the 3-track CD single (CDCL 612) listed above, either the 3:58 video/short "Radio Edit" or the 5:03 LP version on the cassette single can be considered the official single?

As far as I know, CDCL 612 is a U.K. CD single. There is another
European CD single that labels the 3:56 version "Video Edit."

Ah, that explains it. Thanks, Aaron. I should've checked that. The early '90s is quite the challenge rummaging through the myriad versions.

It definitely is! If I'm not mistaken, Capitol used "C2" as a catalog
number prefix for US commercial CD singles.

Edtop40 just reported that the actual timing for the
radio edit on the US cassingle is 4:46.

The only radio edit I know times in at 4:46. Where did you find this 3:58 version on CD?

Discogs says it's from merry ol' England. The US "Radio Edit" is (as per Edtop40) 4:46. The UK "Radio Edit" appears to be 3:58.

Guess I have a new edit I have to add to my collecting list of top 40 hit singles...
