I just obtained a DJ 45 of "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals with catalog number S45-17845. It is a remix version with a label time of (4:53). The label says Remixed by Louil Silas, Jr. Original version appears on the I.R.S. LP, IRS-6273, "The Raw & The Cooked". There is no mention of The Raw & The Remix, and the copyright date is 1989.
I am guessing this 45 was issued at the time the song was a hit, rather than later when the remix album came out. The deadwax is MC 28711 REE FDS-4. The b-side is an instrumental to the remix, also labeled as (4:53).

This info was never added to the database; however, to the best of my memory, the remixed promo 45 has the same (4:53) version that's on Raw & The Remix.

Aaron, we only got in the listed (3:35) on both sides promo 45 in 1989. Its deadwax is "MC 27506 FDS-2", which is quite a few numbers before your "MC 28711 REE FDS-4". I can't say for certain, because we never got in the DJ 45 that you own, sir, but I suspect that it was issued later, to help promote "Raw & The Remix", and not during 1989.

Given your new information, Jim, I would suspect the same thing. Even though the copyright is 1989 on my remix promo 45, and the remix album isn't listed anywhere on the label, your catalog number theory would probably prove to be more accurate.

Regarding "She Drives Me Crazy", Pat has incorporated the DJ 45 info into the database. I thought I'd also add that commercial 45 copies run 3:34. (Thanks to abagon for supplying the timing info on his 45 copy. The printed record label time is 3:35.)

Aaron, does the remixed promo 45 of Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy" feature rapper Yo-Yo on it, like on the Raw & the Remix CD?

Correction: The rapper on the 4:53 remix in question is Monie Love, not Yo-Yo. Either way, further research seems to suggest to me that this version of "She Drives Me Crazy" on the Raw and the Remix CD is not the same as the one on the promo 45. (For what it's worth, I don't recall ever once hearing on the radio this Monie Love remix, which is radically different than the hit version.) If anyone can confirm one way or another for certain though, it would be appreciated.

As I was going through some old HitDiscs this week, I came across a CD with "She Drives Me Crazy" that is labeled "Urban Mix." This jogged my memory about the remix promo 45 I have, and clearly I never replied to Todd exactly 7 years ago!
The Urban Mix on the HitDisc (issued in April 1989 and clearly dubbed from vinyl) is actually the "Radio Rap Version" that appears on a promo 12" single (which also credits Louil Silas Jr. for the remix). Here is the version that appears on the HitDisc and promo 12": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0rz5rTvI0U. The actual run time on the HitDisc is 5:40.
While this mix includes the rap verse by Monie Love, it is definitely not "The Monie Love Remix" that is featured on The Raw And The Remix. The latter is credited to Andy Cox and David Steele. The Radio Rap Version, however, does resemble the remix on the 4:53 promo 45, and you can hear this version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltZSAnk286A
The plot thickens, though, because the promo 45 remix does not have the rap verse by Monie Love! The promo 45 has an actual time of 4:48, and as you can hear from the YouTube dubs, it's not quite as "crazy" (pun intended) of a remix as the Radio Rap Version. The promo 45 is slightly tamed and likely aimed more at pop radio programmers.
So, it seems that the Louil Silas Jr. remixes were actually commissioned when the song was a hit in early 1989. I do not know if these mixes have ever made it to CD. As I mentioned, the HitDisc is clearly a vinyl dub (and not a very good one).
