Listening to "Tight Rope" recently on the T-L SotS 1972 Take Two CD, it sounds a little slow to me (it runs (2:58)). I don't know whether it matches the 45 or not.

I noticed one CD with a (2:53) run time in the database--is that speed more in line with the 45, or is the speed and length on the T-L CD correct?

Doug, my commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:59), but an actual time of (2:57).

Thanks, Jim. TTBOYK, does the speed match? It just sounds a little slow compared to how I remember hearing it on radio back in the day (even a one-second difference in pitch could make it a little peppier).

Some stations sped up the music to make room for more commercials.

No, we sped up the music to make our stations sound more exciting and, by comparison, to make our competitor sound slow and boring. Added commercials were never the goal, though one additonal 30 or 60 second spot per hour was appreciated by our sales departments!

What Gary said, but in this case, this was a radio station that was not noted for speeding up their music.

Earlier in this thread, Jim reported the actual 45 run time info for Leon Russell's "Tight Rope" is 2:57. I bring this up because the song's CD appearances run from 2:53-2:59.

Did anyone come up with an answer to Doug's question regarding the correct speed?

Sorry to bump, but I'm still curious on this one as well.

Runtime on my "Tightrope" Shelter/Capitol stock 45 is 2:59, as stated on the label. The only CD source that I have is "Appetizer" which I believe is a sampler from a boxed set. I ran
the two simultaneously in a digital editor, and Tightrope is definitely slower from the Appetizer CD, and only runs 2:57, with an earlier fade.
