While doing some '90s research, I was a bit surprised to see that Apache Indian's song "Boom Shak-A-Lak" didn't seem to chart anywhere. Back in the fall of 1993, my local top 40 station played this song in HEAVY rotation. It was also included in the movie Dumb and Dumber, although it wasn't featured on the soundtrack. Did anyone else hear/play this song on their local top 40 stations?
About a year later, the similar-sounding song "Whiney Whiney" (also in the Dumb and Dumber movie and included on the soundtrack) by Willi One Blood cracked the airplay top 40 (peaking at #40 in R&R) and made it to #62 on the Hot 100. This is another song that my local top 40 played heavily, although not to the degree of "Boom Shak-A-Lak."
For those curious, "Boom Shak-A-Lak" was issued in a 3:46 "Edit" and "Whiney Whiney" was shortened to 2:52 for radio airplay. My station always played the longer version of "Whiney Whiney," which was about 3 1/2 minutes.
