although not in the db because of it's low chart position, number 38 in 1968, my mono commercial 45 of the vanilla fudge song "take me for a little while" issued as atco 6616 states a run time on the label as 3:20 and does indeed run that length......i have a cdr copy that runs a few seconds short at 3:18, but other than that, they're identical.....

Ed, by any chance is the copy you have on CDR in stereo
until just pass the three minute mark? If it is it might
be from the OOP Box Of Fudge on Rhino Handmade. Also, is
the 45 version just an early fade of the LP version.

Santi, I do know that Vanilla Fudge 45s in stereo can sometimes be difficult
to locate. And while I personally don't own/can't answer your "Box Of Fudge"
audio question, I did recently pre-order a new release. "Vanilla Fudge-The
Complete Atco Singles" on Amazon. It comes out in late April. At the very
least, it should have the correct "Take Me For A Little While" mono 45 version
on it. I doubt a stereo 45 mix was made when it was a current hit. Perhaps
one of our editors could evaluate a stereo long version, to see if it might be a
legit edit candidate for a stereo 45 version.

The drumbeats during the first verse of the Atco 6616 45 are dry on the 45, but have added reverb on the stereo mix found on the Box Of Fudge set (which does switch to mono as Santi described above.) That reverb is also apparent when the stereo BOF track is summed to mono.

I don't have the parent 1967 Vanilla Fudge LP to compare, but the added reverb and switch to mono were also present way back on the 1969 Atco 279 The Super Groups various artists LP. The track on Atco 279 segues briefly into the "Three Blind Mice" organ bit as it fades out, which I believe it did on the '67 album as well.

Good question Ed. I only have two discs with the song. One is the LP length/version just as described above where it goes briefly into the Three Blind Mice piece (but still right after the three minute mark makes the switch from stereo to mono). The other is the single length/version from the Rhino Handmade box. The 45 single was mono as Jim told us above. What is interesting is that before the CD era the song had already appeared in stereo but switched to mono on two LPs. The best news of all, as Jim pointed out, is an upcoming singles CD for the group on the Real Gone Music label may finally yield the all mono single version as it was on the 45.

My stock 45 (Plastic Products pressing) runs longer than Ed's copy. Here's how it compares to the track on Real Gone Music's Vanilla Fudge The Complete Atco Singles CD:

Atco 6616

"TAKE ME FOR A LITTLE WHILE" [BB #38] (67C-12459-12)
listed time: 3:20
actual time: 3:22.957
CD actual time: 3:24.276
CD track runs 1.319 seconds slower than the 45

I can't say for certain whether the single was mixed to
stereo or not, but it is within the realm of
possibility...Atlantic was issuing stereo promo
singles for some songs in 1968...I have several. My promo
of this is mono though...
