What's particularly interesting about the commercial CD single info is the "LP Version" track runs :11 less than the true album version length (assuming the 4:42 time isn't a typo).

Kudos to Ed for uncovering yet another song with a 45/LP version distinction!

My local Rhythmic Top 40 station always played the LP version, but it included muted lyrics and or sounds effects during some of the lyrics to hide questionable content.   Can anyone
provide any additional details?

I have the promo and stock CD singles. I'll try to post details shortly.
The "On The Air" version is the same mix as the LP but with the
censored lyrics and sound effects.

Hey, look at that. I hit 5,000 posts. And they said it wouldn't last...
(I hope Doug reads this.)

Here's what I have for promo CDs:

PRCD 7122-2
1. On The Air (actual 3:53)
2. Clean LP Version (actual 4:52)

The "On The Air" version is the same mix as the explicit LP version, but the questionable lyrics have been muted. There are no added sound effects on this version, and it removes some of the moaning found on the LP version. It also fades about a minute earlier.

The "Clean LP Version" is a slightly different mix than the explicit LP version, but the differences are pretty subtle. This version has far more lyrics left in and overdubs sound effects where the very naughty lyrics are.

I also have the following promo CD:

(no catalog number; matrix # is DJ 96143)
1. Remix Radio Edit (listed 3:59; actual 4:00)

This is essentially a completely different recording. It contains a sample of "Moments In Love" by Art Of Noise and has a totally new vocal track with different lyrics.

The only version on the US commercial 7-inch single (Def
Jam 314 576 120 7) is the "On The Air" version.

My above two posts are a bit confusing, so I thought I'd clear things up. The "On The Air" version on both the stock and promo CD singles are the same. The offensive words are muted, and there are no added sound effects.
