does anyone know if the final two top 40 songs by the r&b
vocal group hi-five were ever released as promo cd
singles?...the cassette singles of both songs 'quality
time' and 'never should've let you go' are the lp versions
running 4:41 and 4:40 respectively....question i have...was
there ever promo cd single for these two songs running
shorter than the lp lengths?

While I don't own any of them myself, between my research on eBay, Discogs, and my copy of Gregory Cooper's 1998 book, Collectible Compact Disc Price Guide 2, it seems there were TWO promo CD singles issued for "Quality Time" here in the U.S.:

JIVE JDJ-42109-2

1) Album Version (4:42 listed)

and

JIVE JDJ-42123-2

1) Short Radio Edit (4:06 listed)
2) Album Version (4:42 listed)

Clearly, you're looking for the latter - and it just so happens there's currently one copy listed on eBay at a "Buy It Now" price here, but admittedly, it isn't cheap! Note how Jive JDJ-42123-2 came packaged w/ the front & back inserts for the original promo CD single on Jive JDJ-42109-2, but w/ a large yellow & red sticker affixed to the front of the plastic jewel case, indicating it was actually the NEW version of the promo CD single that also contained the "Short Radio Edit". However, if you look at the seller's photo of the CD itself, you can definitely see it's the right (later) disc, w/ both versions of the song. Apparently the decision to release the "Short Radio Edit" was last-minute, and Jive didn't feel like printing up new inserts for JDJ-42123-2 (opting for the sticker instead). Looks like Pat will need to add the existence of this "Short Radio Edit" to the notes in the on-line database...

As for "Never Should've Let You Go", I can find evidence of only one U.S. promo CD single at this time, which it appears won't be of any help to you:

JIVE JDJ-42178-2

1) no description shown, but apparently it's the Album Version (4:41 listed)

In case you still want to check it out, there's also one copy of Jive JDJ-42178-2 currently listed on eBay here, but again at a seemingly exorbitant "Buy It Now" price...

Oh, and attn: Pat. Checking the db, I see you're currently MISSING the original parent album for "Never Should've Let You Go". It was the lead single off the group's third album, Faithful, on Jive 41528, which came out in October of 1993. Page on Discogs: HI-FIVE - "Faithful" (U.S. CD) (Yes, as you already show in the db, two months later in December of '93, the song would also be included on the O.S.T. of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, on Hollywood 61562 - don't know if it's the same as the Faithful LP version, although the timing appears to indicate it is...)
