I was wondering if the 45 version of this single was different at all from the "Tiffany" album version.
I have a German CD single and what is listed as 7" version is the same version found on the album.

Yes, the USA 45 is remixed.
Better sounding reverb & less echo effect on Tiffany's lead vocals.

Thanks Andrew, I thought I had heard a version on the radio that ommitted that "bass" sound when she sings the first line, just like the extended version does. Do you know if this version is available on CD?

Good information Andrew - I have already updated the database for those that want to know which cd's have the US 45 version.

I'm not sure if the single mix is on CD; if anyone finds out, please report.
Although I rarely get a request for the song when I DJ private events, I carry a dub from the 'donut' on my hard drive (simply because I hate the way the first verse is mixed on the LP version).

Yes, Pat has updated the database to "45 version" for several CDs. One is Tiffany's "Greatest Hits."

my commercial 45 issued as mca 53231 states a run time on the label as 3:31 but actually runs 3:32....the 45 also states "original version appears on the tiffany album mca-5793"...the back of the picture sleeve states "produced by george e tobin, arranged by john duarte, remix engineer bill smith".....the vinyl 45 is identical to the cd version listed below
(S) (3:32) Hip-O 40018 Greatest Hits (45 version)

I was just listening to "Greatest Hits" (Hip-O Records HIPD-40018) and it features the album version.
If this is the release the database refers to, either there are pressings with both versions or the entry is incorrect.

Just confirmed that my copy of "Greatest Hits" Hip-O 40018 does include the 45 version of "Could've Been". Matrix number is A60919Bb 96090100.

Easy way to tell which version you have:
At 11 seconds in, if you hear a monstrous echo on the line "just about to die", that's the LP mix. I have it on two Time-Life compilations, and two Canadian compilations from 1988
If "just about to die" is crystal clear, that's the 45 mix. It's on the promo-only 4-CD set MCA Hits Sampler from 1988, which is no surprise.
Surprisingly, it's also on the EMI compilation Retro Lunchbox: Gooey Love Songs (1997), which has a little compression/limiting on the loud portions in the last half of the song. This CD should be pretty cheap nowadays.

Just heard the song on Casey's top 40....it was #1 btw and Casey played the
LP mix. It had so much echo in it. Casey usually played the 45 version of the
songs.
I have two 45 mix versions of it. One is on
the greatest hits and the other on Pure 80's Love: The #1 Hits. I also have the
LP mix on her Tiffany CD.

Casey died a few years back. My guess is you are referring to a pre-recorded youtube video, but you did not specify share or elaborate what you meant. Ron, you can always share a link to the countdown. Also I would suggest you subscribe to Pat's database if you want to know where specific LP or 45 versions are on CD rather then posting where on CD we can find the track. I believe in paying the fee each year so Pat can keep this board and community thriving. Thanks!

Our radio station had the countdown thus why there was no link to my post.
I am sorry that my posts about finding a song on a particular CD is
bothering you. And btw I am a paying member and fairly new to the board
and trying to figure things out.
Thanks!

Not to worry, Ron. When I discover something noteworthy, I always post it here on the forum. Sometimes it's mastering info, other times it's just verifying firsthand that a particular CD has some characteristic. The info benefits everybody, and Pat will make sure that the relevant details find their way into the database.
It's great that you support the forum (I do, too), but I see that as a separate issue from posting info for everyone's benefit.
Keep on posting!

That really is true. This is probably the most polite and constructive group of music nerds on the entire internet. (I've heard that BSN folks are just as nice, but I rarely post there.)
