I'm not sure if the 10th edition made this correction or not, but in my 8th edition, John Cougar's "Ain't Even Done With The Night" is listed as LP Version. I A/B the LP Version with the 45, and it appears that the 45 is just an early fade. Unless someone can point out a difference in the mix, the book should list LP Length for this song.

I had bought the commercial 45 awhile ago and, sure enough, was just an early fade. My recreated 45 version runs 3:20.

What's really strange about this news is that they knocked 1:15 off the end of the album length version and kept the 40-second intro intact! Even by early '80s standards, that's still a long intro. And even stranger is the fact that instead of doing a nice single edit, they kept the long 40 second intro and left just 2:40 of the vocal part of the song - that's not a very long section for the vocal part (i.e. the main part). And I tried fading it to 3:20 and felt it fades in a strange place.

Every time this thread gets resurrected, it's so strange to go back and read the very first message I ever posted on this forum back in October 2004!

Could anybody post the specific edit points on the extended / dance mix to make the DJ 45 / radio remix version of INXS - New Sensation?

I have the 12" but neither of the 2 CDs with the radio edit... they both are apparently out of print & not available on Rhino's website, Amazon's mp3 service, or iTunes.

You know me: always trying to get that original radio edit for airplay. :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

I've been curious about this myself. I've compared the commercial 45 "remix" to the CD version and can't hear any difference - is there one? And is the promo 45 different from the commercial one?

The commercial 45 is the LP version, so no difference there. The promo 45 (blue label Atlantic) had the LP version on one side, and a "remix/edit" on the other. The "remix/edit" is basically the same song structure as the LP version, but with the slightly hotter mix from the 12". The biggest difference between the mixes is that the hi-hat is doubled so that it's playing lots of 16th notes instead of just 8th notes.

Would it be reasonable, then, to use the album version as a guide to chop down the 12" to the DJ 45 edit?

It depends on whether you want it exact or not. Personally, I never rely on guesswork to re-create single versions. I have to have a copy of the actual vinyl single before I even attempt it. For "New Sensation," I'm not even positive that the 12" can be edited down to match the promo "remix/edit."

AaronK, you're right... & for that reason, I will play the LP version until I can get the promo remix (since the LP version WAS released to radio).

Thanks, everyone, for your help!

I just listened to the 12" version, and there is no possible way to edit this mix down to the "remix/edit" version. The 12" mix has a bunch of additional effects layered on top of it when compared with the short version.

"Power Of Love/Love Power" by Luther Vandross appears on the third disc of the box set Rhino 71618 Soul Train Hall of Fame/20th Anniversary but is currently not listed in the database.

On my copy of the Time Life disc Sounds of the Seventies - Guitar Power (R942-23) track four is "Bad Case Of Loving You" by Robert Palmer (currently not listed in the database). I'll bet there are two pressings of this disc where they substitute different songs for several of the original 18 tracks. My CD is dated 1992 (W1435 10 OPCD2660-2 RE-3 01 M1S2).

My copy has five replacement tracks (no Kinks, Eric Clapton, Jethro Tull, Derek & The Dominos or Robin Trower). This explains why the Robert Palmer listing has been omitted.

Wow! I've seen lots of cases where one or two tracks are
replaced, but five is a lot!

Usually, tracks are replaced for licensing reasons, like
"Dancing Queen" on the original release of Sounds Of
The Seventies 1977
, or the Motown and Elvis tracks on
the original releases of Rhino's Billboard Top R&R
Hits 1960
through 1969.

The matrix number tells us that there are at least
four different versions of that disc: the original
release (no "RE"), RE-1, RE-2, and RE-3.

Is your version of "Bad Case Of Loving You" the 1989
remix from the Addictions CD? The remix has huge
drums, much like "Simply Irresistible", where the
original 1979 mix has much more tame-sounding drums.

It sounds like to me just like the other Time Life release of the same song (it's on a volume of the Guitar Rock series). But, you'll recall I also hear no difference between the instrumental versions of "Nadia's Theme" (except the version on The Young & The Restless Soundtrack I own runs longer than the Eric Records release).

Here's another song that has missing listings in the database. The "Grease Megamix" has only one CD listed in the database but it also appears on at least two more discs:

Hip-O B0004684 Olivia Newton-John's 2-Disc Gold set from 2005
Polydor 314535877 Various Artists Pure Disco from 1996

The database currently lists "With Pen In Hand" as a duet with Billy Vera and Judy Clay, however it's just a solo recording by Billy.

The following Time Life release is in the database, but there are two songs currently not listed under this two-disc set:

Time-Life 21735 Lifetime Of Country Romance - Treasure Of Love

The two songs are "If You Leave Me Tonight" by Jerry Wallace and "You'll Lose A Good Thing" by Freddy Fender.
