the 12" mix on the import CD is an extended mix of the lp version. the stock "45" has a remix on the intro that's not on the 12". Also, the promo "45" that I've got has the lp version.

That is correct. The 45 does have a different intro than the LP and 12". So it is not possible to duplicate the stock single version by editing the LP or 12" versions.

I just pulled my vinyl 45 of this song which is a dj copy, to compare with the version found on the cd "The Dream Academy" and couldn't detect any differences. Jeff points out the intro is different but I hear no difference. The dj 45's on Reprise in those days usually mentioned if the 45 was an edit or remix and I see no such notation on my dj copy. Can anyone be specific in what they hear different on the commercial 45?

Pat, as it was mentioned in a previous post, there is a dj 45 that is just an edit of the LP mix. The stock 45 begins with a keyboard glissando and Nick Laird-Clowes sings the line "To the one I love"/"This is dedicated, to the one I love". After that he goes into the first verse of the song.

the promo 45 that I've got is the LP version, not an edit of the LP version.

No Ed I am saying my dj 45 is the same as what is found on the "Dream Academy" cd. As has been discussed above, the dj 45 (which is the LP version) and the commercial 45 are not the same.

Hi Pat,

Just to let you know my USA Reprise DJ 45 has the single version/mix on one side & the lp version on the flip.

You are right Andy. This is very unusual as there is no indication on the record label that there are 2 different versions on the 45 which both have the same running time of (3:44).

Mine is labeled correctly!

"A" side is labeled "(remix)" (noted: Original version available on the album THE DREAM ACADEMY).

"DJ" side is not labeled (noted: From the album THE DREAM ACADEMY).

I'd never noticed before, but my promo 45 also has the lp ver b/w the remix. There wasn't any notation of different mixes on the label. Thanks for the info!

Two questions:

#1 - Would everybody agree the remix is the "hit" version?

#2 - Does anybody know if the remix has ever appeared in digital form?

As I commented on the topic about Mr. Mister's Kyrie,
this is a similar case.

In 1998 in Argentina, FM Aspen 102.3 edited the CD called
"Aspen Pop", which included "The Love Parade" in the 45
promo version, with an approximate time of 3:46, the
sound it's pretty good and extracted from the original 45
vinyl, as I was able to investigate and consult.
If you want a copy to listen to just let me know.

https://www.discogs.com/release/11562800-Various-Aspen-
102-Pop-Classics

the cd also include remix version of TM Century HD:
- Jude Cole - Time For Letting Up (Remix)

Cheers.

It's been nine years, but I thought I'd ask my question again a different way:

Did radio stations in 1986 / 1987 play the LP version or the remix?

I don't know what radio played, but commerical singles are all the remix. I sent it to your email.

For what it's worth, I listened to American Top 40 from June 7th, 1986 on the Internet Archive, and at least the second week it was on the top 40, Casey was playing the LP version.

I haven't found a copy of the May 31st or the June 14th broadcasts so I don't know what he played the other two weeks it was on the top 40 charts.

I'm stressing about this mainly because the promo version has the LP version labeled as "A" while the remix is labeled "DJ." Not helpful, record label!
