No, it kind of mimics on the LP mix the same Muskrat sound effect as the one used on the ending of Muskrat Love. That's what I'm saying has disappeared from the 45 mix. I think it was mentioned on the Muskrat Love thread that it was faded out on the DJ copies because those bleeps messed with the radio signals back then. It's my cutesy description of the sound effect to look for from Daryl thats missing I cannot confirm it's those same muskrats or different ones hehe.....

The Japanese pressing of Songbook just arrived at my desk with the the awful Palm Tree cover and it contains the album mix...

Glen, can you send me an MP3 dub of your 45 so I can hear what you're talking about?

I never paid close attention before to those muskrat
"sounds" prior on this song, but just took a listen to the
common LP version on CD and I hear it early around the 40
second mark plus where Glen mentions right before the
minute mark. So are those synthesizer parts missing from
the 45 mix after all or also present?

Ok, my two 45's have the following matrix information

My first copy where I discovered the missing synth part at the 51
second mark is 12493 AZ with a flower drawn in next to it and the
numbers 23211 written backwards and upside down. My second copy
that arrived a few days ago is 12493 P-4 AZ with no drawing on it. Not
sure what any of that means so perhaps someone can elaborate for
me. Both are stock A&M labels 2063-S no type face change on either
copy.

Listened to both again and that synth line that gets played over the
synth bleeps that start at 46 seconds and get mixed under what Daryl
plays on the LP at 51 seconds while Toni finishes singing the How long
has this been going on line and before going into the Who, who's been
teaching you is definitely missing.

Thanks Glenpwood for sharing your 45 dub, but upon
hearing it i could immediately hear this dub only
contains the left channel of your 45.
It is in mono, even the surface noise is mono, and i can
clearly hear the right channel is missing, and that is
where that synth part is.

If you dubbed it yourself, you may wish to evaluate your
turntable's connections (i am surprised you haven't
noticed other songs missing elements as well).

My evaluation of the song stands at this point, the LP
and 45 version are one and the same.

With so many others that are different, it is a relief to
cross this one off the list.

from my involvement with Glen, Markie and others in dealing with this track,
I agree with Markie.

I listened to the MP3 as well, and I concur -- there's only one mix of "You Never Done It Like That." There was something wrong with the turntable or connections when that 45 was dubbed.

I'm a giant Captain and Tenille fan, and have almost all the CDs Glenpwood mentioned in the thread. The only MIX I'm aware of that actually has never been issued on CD (not counting mono promo mixes or foreign languge verisons) is the non-charting B-side of "Love Will Keep Us Togther," called "Gentle Stranger." That actually is a different mix than what is on their first album, and includes seagull and ocean waves sound effects on the intro. I've looked hard for that on CD and never found it.
