Sure thing! The only bummer is that in all my research, I haven't been able to locate a copy of the long version on CD. It may be available on an import, but most imports with the song do not show a run time. Anyone have a good CD source for the long version?

I wish I did but all I have is the Rhino disc with the
short edit that is not the US single version. Has anyone
listened to any of the many versions posted on youtube that
seem to come from a European single release (I believe
there is at least one where the label reads Germany)? I
would like to know if the edit on the Rhino CD perhaps
matches one of the foreign single releases.

Ed just forwarded me a copy of the 6:25 version that he had, and I can say with certainty that it is a vinyl dub with a pretty good amount of noise reduction applied. I'll likely do my own transfer from an LP, 12" or 45 for the missing section. The rest can likely be taken from the Rhino CD.

Aaron: I was going to give this edit a go as well, but like you, I don't have the LP version from a CD source.

Let us know how you get on with your vinyl transfer.

As far as I can tell, both of the copies on eBay are bootlegs from Russia. There is no barcode on the disc and no evidence anywhere that the self-titled album was officially released on CD. I'm betting this was just dubbed from vinyl and made to look as official as possible.

I stand corrected, the vocal overdub does appear on the LP version of I Can't Stand The Rain.

I have no idea if this new release has the "correct" US 45 version, but there is a brand new single CD released by the UK label Big Break (a Cherry Red label) of the 1977 Eruption LP. It includes the ten original tracks from that album plus five bonus tracks. One of those bonus tracks is labeled as the single version of "I Can't Stand The Rain." Just wanted to pass this info along for those who may still be searching for this rarity.

I have good and bad news. The bad news is the recent UK CD release I referenced above does NOT have the correct US 45 edit. Instead it has the same edit as the Rhino CD released over two decades ago (must be the European single edit). The good news is the LP version is from tape and can be edited to match the US edit (special thanks to Aaron K. for confirming).

Out of curiosity, was this recent UK CD the first time ever that the full LP version was released on CD from tape?

Gordon:
This Cherry Red Records disc from the middle of last year just might be the first time around for a compact disc release sourced from the master tapes. I seldom purchase imports, but I have learned that for some of these tracks that seldom surface on a US CD release it's worth a shot once in a while. Sometimes you end up with a coaster (due to an incorrect edit, poor source, heavy NR, too loud or compressed, etc.) and other times you end up with a keeper.
