I agree the 45 mix of "December 1963" is better as well. There is flanging on
the background vocal 'aahs' during the "…walked me in the room" parts of
the 45 that are not on the LP mix

There is a Digital 45 of December,1963. Is that the true 45 mix?

Apparently so. I prefer it!

David, I do not hear any differences in the background
vocals on that part on either version. Are you listening
to an mp3 copy of the single, or the lossless FLAC
download?

I have the version from "Jersey Beat....The Music Of Frankie Valli & The Four
Seasons (Box Set)" downloaded from iTunes. Is that not the 45 mix?

That is the only 45 mix listed in the database. There is another separate thread on "December, 1963" that covers that.

I noticed that Rhino is redesigning parts of it's website.
They have a placeholder for Digital 45s, but no product
yet. The copyright date of the page is 2012, so I hope
it's a sign of good things to come...with lossless files
like before!

Interesting. You only find it if you search for it.
They've removed the "digital" link completely from their
home page, so I wonder if that "digital 45s" logo really
is new or if we just didn't notice it before. I don't
recall seeing that logo before, though.

Well, those c**ksuckers better cough up some dinero,
because I bought a digital 45 from them about three
months ago and couldn't download it. Their help
department was most unhelpful -- all they did was send me
a link to their FAQ page where it said what to do if you
were have a problem downloading. I had already tried
everything on it, but tried it again anyway, and those
little bitches never answered the three subsequent emails
I sent them telling them that the problem was unresolved.
So I'm out about $3.00.

Notify your credit card holder to withhold payment -
that'll get Rhino's attention.

I think it's too late, Gary... It's been about five months
now.

Archive.org is showing a cache for that page with that logo
(only with digital 45s actually for sale on the page)
dating back to January 2, 2010. So this is not a new logo
or page... I think they are, in fact, getting rid of their
downloads, and all that's left is the empty page.

Rhino just ain't what it used to be when it cared about its customers and
product back in the glory days of CD reissues (late 80s and 90s).

It was right after Rhino got bought out by corporate Warner Brothers that all the care (and great releases) diminished to nil. (WB also fired Rhino's best & most caring employees.) A few years later, this new "corporate" Rhino was simply re-releasing all the previous Rhino compilation CDs but this time with cardboard covers on top of the jewel cases (and had pretty much stopped releasing any NEW reissues/compilations). And as one ex-employee of Rhino astutely put it: Rhino had become a reissuer of cardboard. That really was the only new contribution they were adding to the marketplace.

Gordon, you're absolutely right, and it's such a loss for collectors like us.

Heads-up! Two lone Rhino Digital 45s are available in both FLAC and Apple Lossless on the legit and licensed website www.livedownloads.com. Its a site the licenses and sells bands' concert recordings, but for a few groups, they've also licensed their studio recordings, The Doors being one of them. I checked them out with spectral analysis and they are definitely true 16-bit lossless, not up-rezzed MP3s or iTunes Plus files.

Here are the links to the two singles, which are $2.99 a piece for the lossless versions:

People Are Strange / Unhappy Girl

Light My Fire / Crystal Ship

Too bad the single mix of "Touch Me" isn't on there. I've been looking for that one forever.

Yeah, they never issued that one in any digital format.

The 45 mix of "Touch Me" is so much better.
