Isn't the opening guitar solo simply from another song on the Heart album, and therefore the single version can be created from CD (all from portions on the same album)? |

It is the opening guitar from the LP version of "Crazy On You", but there are some sound effects that help bridge the gap between that guitar part and the opening of the LP version of "Dreamboat Annie." I'm not sure whether those sound effects are isolatable on the Dreamboat Annie LP/CD to nab.
If that makes any sense. . . :)

Nope. The first 9 seconds of the "Dreamboat Annie" 45 contain a guitar solo that doesn't appear on the album or on any Heart release other than this 45. At :09 it cuts into the guitar intro from "Crazy On You" that was edited out of the "Crazy On You" 45. The "Crazy On You" guitar solo continues for another :38, with the "waves crashing" intro to "Dreamboat Annie" cross-fading in during the last :05.
Man, that 45 really was a Frankenstein creation. To top it off, the "Dreamboat Annie" portion has a longer outro than the LP version of "Dreamboat Annie" which precludes recreating the 45 just by splicing in the intro that is unique to the 45.
I wish they would just release this version on CD already, as my needledrop doesn't really sound that great.

I know I've mentioned this one before, but until the "Dreamboat Annie" single version ever does see a CD release, your best bet would be to track down the promo 12-inch single. The stereo side contains the 2:59 45 version, while the mono side runs 2:10. It comes in a die-cut custom cardboard sleeve.
This 12-incher was the only "DA" promo single we received at Heilicher Brothers distributors in Minneapolis. The 7-inch 45s I sent out to stations in the region were all stock copies.

Randy Meisner's "Hearts On Fire" is on CD. It's on a Varese Vintage Lost 45's CD. Excellent sounding. Don't know of any of his other hits on CD presently.
