The actual commercial 45 run time of Dr. Hook's "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" is 2:56. (Thanks to my good friend Abagon for relaying the timing info. The printed record label time is 2:58.) I bring this up because the song's database CD entries run from 2:52-2:57.

There exists a 12" promo with a 5:12 remix. Not only is it a unique "disco" mix, but the song is sped up by a whopping 4%.
This may warrant its own thread, but does anyone know of any other top 40 hits from the '70s that had promo 12" mixes/edits not released commercially?
I can say for certain there are 12" promo remixes of "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart and "Lotta Love" by Nicolette Larson, as well as a unique promo 12" edit of "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione. Any others?

Boney M's "Rivers Of Babylon" 12-inch promo remix was mentioned several years ago in the thread for that song. Listed times were 7:30 and 4:06, with the shorter side being edited further for the 3:45 RE-2 DJ 45 reservice. I've never seen a domestic commercial release for either of those.

I have a commercial 12" of "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy." Does this mean it
differs from the promo 12" version?

There are 12" promos of the Doobie Brothers' "What A Fool Believes"
as well as one for "You're The Love" by Seals & Crofts. Have not seen
either on a commercial CD.

Interesting! I'm guessing it's the same mix, but I didn't realize it was
released on a commercial 12".

The Doobie Brothers was released on a commercial 12", though. Not
sure about the Seals and Crofts.
Also, I should have been more clear. I was wondering about unique
promo 12" versions that were not commercially available on 12" at the
time of release. Since we have done such a thorough job of
documenting promo 7" versions, I thought there may be a few on 12"
singles that were promo only versions. I would think that most promo
12" singles were also released commercially, but there are obviously a
few that only went to DJs and radio. Also, I'm not asking about promo
versions that were serviced on both 7" and 12" singles. Just looking for
what may have been unique to promo 12" vinyl.
The Saturday Night Fever promo "Disco Mixes" is another one that
comes to mind.

The 12" promo of Superman by The Kinks has a shorter edit that to my
knowledge was only available on the promo 12".
EDIT...... Sorry, just realized that Superman was not a top 40 hit.

Fetta, I do have that Nicolette Larson promo 12", and I really like that mix! Feel free to add non-top 40 hits if you want.

Here's another:
Love Will Save The Day (David Morales Mix) - Whitney Houston
Aaron, are you interested in promo 12"'s that included versions that could
only be found on the 12" or just a listing of promo 12"'s that were not
available commercially? For example, "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross had a
12" that was not available commercially (I think) , however you could find the
version featured on the 12" on the Diana Ross LP.

At 13-WAVZ in New Haven, CT we played an in-house edit of the promo 12" of "Precious Love" by Bob Welch. I wondered where the bells came from as they are not on the 45/LP. When 13-WAVZ swapped formats and KC-101 was born we played the 12" promo of "Lotta Love".

I'm interested in the former, mainly '70s and '80s. Basically, my thought
is that we've explored just about every possible DJ edit/mix that appeared
on promo 45s. Surely there are a handful of mixes/edits that appeared
only on promo 12" singles and not anywhere else (at least at the time
of release).
Pat does not incorporate 12" single information in the database unless the
12" is considered to be the official single version, so there would be no
way for us to know, for example, that "Lotta Love" had a fantastic (IMO)
disco mix on the promo 12" and can only be found there.
Another one that jimct reminded me about is "Whatcha Gonna Do" by
Pablo Cruise. There was a promo 12" that had a unique extended version
that did not appear on any commercial 12".
I'm not trying to establish an endless list of promo 12" singles that were
ever serviced to radio (there are hundreds and thousands, I'm sure). I'm
just interested in those that contained unique mixes or edits that could
not be found anywhere else.
I'm also not trying to list mixes/edits that also appeared on promo 45s, as
I'm sure there are tons of those, too, especially when you get into the '80s
decade.
I'm going to move this discussion to another thread, and perhaps we can
come up with a nice list.

TomGary, do you have a copy of that "Precious Love" you speak of? That's a favorite song of mine - it sure would be cool to hear an in-house edit of the 12" (or anything longer than the regular version).

Does anyone know if the 12" of "When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman" has come out on CD overseas? (How about any other 12" mixes of Dr. Hook songs?)
