Congratulations Ed! That's a great achievement. Personally, I don't know how you were able to achieve it. It just seems there are so many records that there's no trace of today, even though they charted. There are certain titles I've been after for years, and I've never come across them. It's kind of disouraging at times, but I'm glad you were able to acquire them.

I know how you feel. My goal is to get as many Picture Sleeve 45s that charted on the Hot 100 as I can. I've always loved picture sleeves. I've got around 7,000 - three-quarters of that is from the '80s, where just about *everything* had a picture sleeve!
I've got a few hundred from the '60s, but those are obviously harder and much more expensive to try to track down. There weren't a lot of picture sleeves released in the '70s.
I keep pushing on trying to track down the elusive titles...and running out of ideas on where to look.

i just compared it to the cdr version i have and it is no
where near the correct version.....since the song is NOT in
the db because of it's low peak chart position of number 38
in 1964, i need some help as to what cd may contain the
correct mono single version.....anyone?...the 45's label
states the run time as 2:49 but actually runs 2:55

santiparadoa was kind enough to send me an mp3 of the song
from his cd
'On the Soul Side ('60s & early '70s)_Time Life 1990' and
it is the same mono version, except for a slight pitch and
fade issue
thanks santiparadoa for the help!!!

While i'm thinking about it, does anyone know where I can
find Bobby Rydell's "The Fish" on CD? It charted but
didn't get into the top 40, but it was on the flipside of
the 45 "The Third House (In From The Right).

That Rydell track is on two different grey area CDs. One
appearance is
on a various artists Cameo/Parkway hits compilation on
Liberty Bell
(don't recall which of the five volumes it's on). The other
disc is a Rydell
hits compilation called Bobby's Biggest Hits (on Famous
Groove Records FG.971004).
BTW, "The Fish" reached #16 on the Record World singles
chart and #25 on the Billboard singles chart in the summer
of 1961.

Ed:
Due to a busy personal schedule, I was on a prolonged hiatus from the message board earlier this year and ended up not seeing this thread until now. So allow me, Ed, to finally join everyone else here in personally congratulating you on completing your goal of collecting every Top 40 hit on a commercial single format from 1955-2000! If you can believe it, it's been over nine years ago since we first met... This was back when you were an eBay seller and I was a customer purchasing a bunch of your promo CD singles. Right away, I noticed and greatly appreciated your careful attention to detail with the track descriptions and run time info you posted on your auction pages and then remember thinking you would be a perfect addition to Pat Downey's brand new message board.
All these years later, I can only imagine how many commercial single run times and related info we'd not know about right now (especially pertaining to cassette singles) had you never visited this message board. Kudos again, buddy, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we look forward to your continued contributions on this forum for many more years down the road!

I can relate. I started my first weekend radio gig in late 1967, about 6 months later the station moved from the studios they'd
occupied since they signed on to a new facility at the transmitter site. I don't think they threw out anything.
A friend of mine and I were offered a deal to go thru all those 45s in the basement...anything that was a hit was to be saved for the
station library, anything else was to be removed from the shucks (they were filed in nice sleeves and the station wanted to keep them)
and bundled into 25-record bundles to give away. Our "pay" for this was that we could keep anything we wanted. We were both only 17 at
the time, and this was well before the first Whitburn book. Man, if I knew as much about chart rankings then....!! Many of those 45s
looked virtually unplayed.

Ed, 10 years later, how much farther along are you to
having the ultimate Top 40 library?

i finished my digital project sometime in 2018 and i
haven't done much since....I have every top 40 in digital
form and Rich has taken it to another level by trying to
amass the hot 100 library....but my interest was primarily
top 40....

Ed is correct, I've built on what he did and even improved it where I could. At this point in time I have every Hot 100 hit from 1985 through 2018. 1980-1984 has about 150 tracks that need to be dubbed.

Ed and all of you are to be commended for the hard work you
do in assembling your archives. I certainly don't carry
everything for my DJ business drives but I have about
17,000 active titles from the 1940s through today. The rest
are archived in my office.
