The cost is doubled if Aaron autographs it. :)

I did get a response from RealGone. They said they
printed the labels for the buyers, put them in a box,
and drew them randomly. They must have indeed tracked
the information. I pictured the CDs autographed, sealed,
and randomly mixed in with the non-autographed copies.
I am satisfied that is was a random drawing. I'm usually
pretty lucky.
Of course I did not win the powerball either. Shoulda
bought a ticket.

It's crazy how many times a day I get asked for an autograph. It always seems to happen when I'm buying something with a credit card.

Well, who wouldn't want an autograph from a DJ as famous as Aaron The K, a.k.a. "The Third Papa"?

Just got my set today and to say it's outstanding would be an understatement!
Many thanks to Ed for the wonderful liner notes, to Aaron for the perfect sound and to Gordon for green-lighting the whole thing.
As much as I love Michelle Phillips, I think an autographed copy from Ed and/or Aaron would be even better:)
Thanks again guys for keeping the flame alive!

Real Gone Music has it sold out on their site. Might be just temporary, but I wouldn't chance it and grab a copy from an online retailer soon if you haven't already. I got my copy on Thursday and love it. I think it's the best of the recent ABC/Dunhill singles compilations yet. It was a great idea to add the solo singles by Cass, John and Denny. The sound is impeccable (plus the photos and liner notes make it a great value).

Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys! It makes me feel really good to know that everyone is loving these discs.
Not only does Real Gone's site say "sold out," but I noticed that Amazon now says "ships in 8 to 10 days." In all the email exchanges throughout the planning process, there was never talk about making it a "limited release," so I would guess that most retailers are simply waiting for a new shipment to come in from Universal.

Sounds like a good candidate for a Grammy for Best Historical Album, which, according to Wikipedia, "from 1997 to the present has been awarded to the Compilation Producers and Mastering Engineers."

I don't have the expert ears of the many here, but I listened and found it to be well worth the 40+ year wait! The collection sounds amazing...I hope I detect a not-so-subtle Dunhill pattern here and Three Dog Night will be next! |

I would add Tommy Roe to that wish list as well. He had over 30 chart singles (if you count the bubblers) and several sounded much better in mono than the stereo LP versions that we have been stuck with on CD so far.

Ordered mine through Amazon. Hopefully, I'll get to
enjoy all that glorious mono in a few weeks.

Received and listened to my copy - and the result is once again: 10 points out of 10 (or should I say 11 out of 10 even if that's impossible) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cross my fingers for Three Dog Night is next too !!

If anyone should feel the urge to leave a review on Amazon (and
hopefully rave about how good it is), that would be excellent. There was
a recent review left by someone making false claims that some songs
have "a lot of surface noise," and slammed it because it's not in stereo.

I didn't expect this set to be able to meet the high standard established by the Grassroots and Steppenwolf sets, but it actually exceeds that standard. A superb job all around.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a copy autographed by Michelle Phillips, but I already have a copy of the UK-only Complete Anthology box set signed by her when these were being sold by Collectors' Choice. (The 'single versions' on the UK box set sound suspiciously like digital clones of the not-particularly-well-done needledrops from the All The Leaves Are Brown set.)
I was surprised when I heard "Dancing Bear' on this set, since my Canadian RCA single runs about (4:07), just as the LP version does. I have a number of Canadian RCA Mamas and Papas singles; some are the same as the US Dunhill singles and some are the LP version.
I was not familiar with the mono mix of "California Dreamin'" and was eager to learn if, as is the case with the stereo mix, there was still a bit of Barry McGuire's voice on it. As the notes state, the song was initially recorded by Barry McGuire (his version is on the UK box), and the same basic instrumental track was used for the Mamas and Papas' version. But Barry McGuire's vocals were not completely erased. In the stereo mix, when John and Denny are singing the opening line, "All the leaves are brown" in the right channel, you can faintly hear the unmistakable voice of Barry McGuire in the left channel before Cass and Michelle repeat the line in that channel. I wanted to know if McGuire's voice was also still there on the mono mix. It's even more difficult to detect than on the stereo mix, but if you listen carefully, you can tell that there is definitely a third voice on that opening line, and that's the voice of Barry McGuire.

I can't opine on it, since I haven't heard it yet (and can't remember my Amazon log-in password, anyway) but it never ceases to amaze me how nearly every time there's a mono singles collection offered for sale on Amazon, somebody has to whine incessantly that it's not in stereo. Never mind that there are usually dozens of other compilations available on the same site for those same artists in glorious Virtual Sound, Full-Dimensional, Sounds Great In stereo, but they feel the need to berate the only compilation that has ever offered the original mono single mixes.
A lot of those "reviewers" deservedly get their lunches handed to them by others who point out the same thing I did above, but some things never change, it seems. There are just some people who don't get the difference; there's no problem with that, but to go on and on about how "inferior" mono is gets really old to those who can hear the differences.
Since Paul brought up "California Dreamin'": I hadn't listened to my original Dunhill 45 in decades until giving it a spin about four years ago and had completely forgotten how buried the flute is during the break. One might assume it would be a LOT more prominent in the mono mix, but the Dunhill Laws Of Monophonic Science sometimes tended to go against the grain.

I finally received my copy... one of my most-wanted sets. Thank you to all involved for such an amazing release. A lot of love and hard work clearly went into this!
Listened once through this evening and it sounds incredible. I can't wait to dive in and pore over the liner notes this weekend.
