Got some very sad news today. One of our regular board members, Mark Mathews (username: MMathews) has passed away.

As most of you know, Mark did A LOT of work on the various artists CDs that we all love so much. He was always
generous and helpful with his time and expertise. This is a HUGE loss for us music collectors, his friends and
family.

May he Rest in Peace.

I'm so sad to hear this news. Mark was the best at what he did, and yes, very generous with his time and craft.

"The Mixfixer" was fantastic. Mark was younger than I so
I'm stunned to see this sad news. I will miss him and his
huge contributions to this chat board. God bless him!!

Very shocked to read this news. Mark was a Facebook friend
and would comment on humorous memes and photos as well as
event photos I was the DJ for. I only came to know Mark
through this forum, BSN and through the collector's group.

May a wonderful man rest in peace.

So very sad to hear this.

He and I are about the same age. We both grew up around New York City, listening to the same stuff on the radio. His first 45 was actually the same as my first 45: "Le Freak" by Chic. We started strong.

Wow, very sorry and saddened to hear this news. He did a lot of excellent and passion-infused work on a lot of music. I had the pleasure
of interacting with him several times online and as mentioned, he was very generous with his time. He will be greatly missed.

This is horrible news! Mark was one of my best friends. We first connected
around '98-ish during the Napster days. We just spoke on the phone just 2 or
3 nights ago, and he seemed fine. What happened? I can’t believe this news.
I’m beyond saddened by this. I can’t imagine a world without him. One of the
nicest guys EVER. Like others have said here, he was very generous with his
time and knowledge.
RIP Mark, and my condolences to his family and friends.

This is terrible. I’m shocked at hearing this awful news. I was just listening
to one of the new CDs Mark had a hand in creating for Hit Parade Records
and was admiring the work he (and a few select others) had done. Although
I didn’t know him and hadn’t met him, I learned a bunch from Mark’s
expertise on this board. He was a very talented guy with a good ear who
had the ability to pay attention to detail, and had the knowledge and
patience to discover and notice minor details in recordings. He will certainly
be missed.

A major loss to this board. I feel for his friends and family. So sorry to hear.

Sorry and sad to hear.
Mark's postings were always a good read, and willingness to
share thoughts on music drew us in.
Play those 45's in the sky, Mark!

Very sad to hear this news.

I actually got the chance to personally thank him for the
extra fine work he'd done on CD. I'd accidentally gotten
billed twice for an order from Eric once. When I called
about it, I told the person on the phone about how much I
enjoyed their output. I was completely shocked when that
person introduced himself and told me how much he enjoyed
making them.

That's right. Mark answered the phones at Eric. We had
a very nice conversation about our mutual love of
collecting music while he corrected the billing issue.
When we were done, I told him to keep up the good work.
And we hung up. A brief meeting, but one I will always
remember fondly.

I was so happy that Mark decided to join us for that Downey Board zoom meeting we did a few years back. In fact, you'll
hear/see many board members in the video and I'm so glad we all got together to talk about our backgrounds and collections!

Mark's story starts just after the 41-minute mark:

I hope that somehow Mark can hear all the wonderful things
that we are saying about him. In our interactions, he was
always kind, considerate, generous, and positive. I still
can't quite believe he is gone, honestly. I'm so grateful
that our paths crossed and we were able to become friends.
I have quite a few rare low-charting Hot 100 songs because
Mark shared them with me (such as "Future Shock" by Hello
People and "Machines" by John LaVigni, both from 1975),
and I'll always think of him when I listen to them. I
think that might be how he would like to be remembered,
honestly.

So sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I am so grateful that we have the Zoom call to
look back on. Before the Zoom call, I never had any idea what anybody looked like
or their story. R.I.P. -Bill.

I had Mark M and Gordon P as guests on the radio show back in 2020.

We spent two hours talking about compilation CDs.

Pretty nerdy stuff, but that's why we're all here.
