I've been trying to make sense of the various versions of
"Ring Ring" by ABBA and here's what I've found:

The song was originally released in Swedish & English in
1973. This English version is the the one that is most
commonly found on their Greatest Hits compilations,
probably because it is the best mix.

When the single flopped in English-speaking countries
outside the U.S. it was reissued in 1974 in a drastically
remixed form, including a prominent saxophone overdub.
The U.K. and U.S. versions both use this version as a
starting point but differ in EQ and reverb. There may be
other differences but I haven't compared closely. These
versions have appeared on various deluxe versions of the
Ring Ring album, but all seem to be compressed to death.
Perhaps the singles sound that way too, but if so, it's
not pleasant.

The U.K. single label reads 3:08, and the CD versions run
3:10 and are usually labelled "1974 Remix - Single
Version."
The U.S. single label reads 3:03, and the CD versions run
3:06 and are usually labelled "U.S. Remix 1974"

The U.S. remix includes more sax parts during the chorus compared to the
UK single remix.

The US remix of "Ring Ring" is on the 2014 deluxe edition of the Waterloo album.

I am still thoroughly confused by all the versions.

Does anyone know what was on the US LP, and was the 45
(third American single?) any different?.

I would really like to have a distillation of ALL the
versions as I like the song.

I don't have the original vinyl to offer any additional
insight, but according to Wikipedia here are all the
versions:
"Ring Ring (Bara du slog en signal)" (Swedish Version)
"Ring Ring" (English Version)
"Ring Ring" (English Version) – (1974 Remix, UK Single
Version)
"Ring Ring" (English Version) – (U.S. Remix 1974)
"Ring Ring" (German Version)
"Ring Ring" (Spanish Version)
"Ring Ring" (Medley of Swedish, Spanish and German
Versions)

Thanks RingRingmaster_D,

I would still like to actually hear all the English
language versions accurately labeled as there are some
incorrectly noted versions on YouTube & Spotify.

I believe all CD/digital releases of the US album remix sound suspiciously
like a bad cassette dub (with NR applied), and run slightly faster than the
UK remix but still slower than the original 1973 version. A vinyl rip from the
Waterloo album would be interesting to hear, at least to me.

It is the same version that is on the 45 that eight year old me purchased in a
supermarket in Maaseik, Belgium, in the summer of 1973. They weren’t even
called ABBA yet. The record is credited to ‘Bjorn & Benny, Anna & Frieda’.

Even though it was purchased in Belgium, it is a French
pressing.
