This does look great! It's nice to see that the software is mobile-friendly with a mobile version.

I must confess that it's hard to look at the forum with this new face. Changes are always good and come for a reason! New life to this forum, thanks Aaron.

Could the font size on the desktop version be made slightly larger?

I'm already looking into this. As the forums are not custom built but rather is a pre-installed software package, the options for changing things are limited. There is nothing in the control panel that jumps out for choosing font size, but I agree it could be a bit larger.

Wow, Aaron, the newly relaunched Top 40 Music on Compact Disc website and database looks terrific! I haven't explored it in any real depth yet, but so far, I really like the much more colorful graphics and aesthetics! After 21 years, I thought this wonderful site was in need of a cosmetic "facelift", and now it finally has a fresh, new look for a new era! Meanwhile, I agree that everything indeed still has the same "feel" as before, so it's a big plus that we're not having to adapt to a completely new software interface in the process.

I like some of the new features, too, including the "Thanks" button option you mentioned and the database's new "table" format! Not only is each known available version of a song now neatly listed (as shown in the Thompson Twins "Lay Your Hands on Me" example), but each one even includes hyperlinks to their appropriate Discogs website pages for reference. What an excellent idea!

One specific question I do have as far as terminology goes, and I admit that this one has been nagging at me a bit lately... Are we now going with the term "promo" instead of "DJ" when discussing "promo 45/CD version" versus "DJ 45/CD version"? I will say, I still personally prefer using "DJ 45" or "DJ CD single" because 1) that's how the website has referred to radio-only singles for the past 21 years, and 2) the term "promo" is really a shortened word for "promotion", which implies that something's being/been given away for free. Yes, these singles are issued "free" to radio stations, yet they are obviously not made available to the public (which is why I don't think they necessarily warrant inclusion among a song's database CD listings, by the way, as has been discussed elsewhere in this message thread). The term "DJ", to me, more clearly implies something that was made exclusively available to radio only. I remember finding this term helpful when I discovered my first Pat Downey book in the early '00s (anyone remember those massive things? 😀).

I know that veteran message board members will understand what "promo single" means, and even I have grown accustomed to using that term more frequently in my recent message posts, but I just want to be sure that this won't be confusing to newer database users. Right now, it looks like the default term used in the new "table" format is "promo", while most of the individual CD comments still appear to retain use of the term "DJ". Whichever way we decide to go with this, my primary concern is that we should be consistent with using one term or the other throughout the database, rather than co-mingling them or using them interchangeably. Just my two cents on that.

Overall, I give two thumbs-up for the website and database's new look! Well done!

It looks like the font size is bigger with a different pre-installed "skin," so I've changed it to this one. It is easier to read now.

For those who want even larger font, an easy but temporary workaround is to hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and then move the mouse wheel. This will zoom the browser in or out.

I'm glad your initial reaction was "Wow!" in a good way :)

To answer your question about DJ vs. promo, I'd love to hear what others think. The Thompson Twins example was something I entered this morning, just so users could get an idea of what the table looks like. While I have also become used to hearing "DJ 45 version" via the database and forum, I never refer to CDs the same way. I always call them promo CD singles, never DJ CD singles. Also, when you spend a lot of time searching Discogs, the only time you run across the term "DJ" is when it refers to an artist (DJ Khaled, DJ Jazzy Jeff, etc.). In every instance regarding "DJ 45s," Discogs labels them (7", Single, Promo) or (CD, Single, Promo). Taking that into consideration, new users coming from Discogs are probably more used to seeing "promo."

Another thought... One of my mentors and our old friend Jimct (a radio DJ since the late '70s) always called them "promo 45s" or just "promos." I rarely ever heard him refer to them as "DJ 45s," at least not when talking to him on the phone and in person.

So, I lean toward using "promo single version" but I have no intention of doing a sweeping "replace all" in the database, because I think it's clear enough either way.

Anyone else want to chime in?

By the way, I just discovered the live chat room link on the tool bar at the top of this webpage! And it appears to keep a log of chat room conversations. How cool (and retro)! ☺️
