Ed, you'll know it right away. The dirty version is FULL of very explicit language. Think of all the dirty words you know and insert them in the song, and there you have it...

My latest Pop Annual states a time for this song of (4:28). I have a rare promo 45 for this song, obviously with the "censored" version on both sides. Both sides of it have both a listed and actual time of (4:24). Does anyone know where the (4:28) timing comes from? Ed, is (4:28) the listed time of your cassingle? And what would your cassingle's actual time be?

does anyone know if this song was ever issued as a vinyl 45 or if it was only issued in the usa as a commercial cassingle as skyywalker 130, because according to the billboard charts from the period, it wasn't ever issued as a vinyl 45....

my commercial cassingle issued as skyywalker 130 does not state a version or run time on either the cassingle itself or the cardboard sleeve, but the version on it is identical to the version listed below and runs 4:25.....in addition, i have it on strong authority that there was NEVER a commercial 45 issued under the label and catalog number of skyywalker 130.....this is one of a hand full of 1989 top 40 songs that was exclusively issued on cassingle....

I wonder if the 2 Live Crew Rap Hot Line (pictured on cassingle sleeve) is still in service?

Did this get radio airplay anywhere? Wikipedia talks about it going to #26 "despite lack of airplay."
It's tough because the sample that would grab the attention of those who would complain is also a major piece of the hook that makes people like the song, I think.
The "clean" lyrics aren't squeaky clean, but they're no worse than anything else that was on the radio at the time. It's that darned sample...

Yeah, this got plenty of airplay, especially on the more
"rhythmic" leaning CHR stations. It hit #1 at KKLQ in San
Diego and at WEGX in Philly, just to name a couple (when
in doubt, always check the ARSA site).

It peaked at #26 on the Hot 100, so yes, it did make
American Top 40. However, Casey had left the show by that
time, so Shadoe Stevens was hosting when it was a hit.
Casey's Top 40 show was based on the Radio & Records CHR
charts, and the song never made it there, so we were spared
having to hear Casey intro the song.

Paul, thanks for that info! It's good to know. Could you tell me what the "ARSA" site is? I'll bookmark it for future reference.
LunarLaugh, going back to the (proven unreliable) Wikipedia, they claim: "Because of the controversy, the song's title was never mentioned by Shadoe Stevens when he played the song on the radio show American Top 40, though it did get mentioned on a Summer 1990 episode when the group's second top 40 hit, Banned in the U.S.A. was on the chart."
I don't have any of those shows, so I can neither confirm no deny. (If true, this reminds me of the claim Casey Casem wouldn't say the name of the George Michael song, "I Want Your Sex.")

Don't you mean WIOQ? WEGX was the Mainstream CHR in Philly.

Here is the ARSA site - http://las-
solanas.com/arsa/surveys.php
You'll have to register to do a search for an artist and
song title search.

Ooh, thanks for that link, John. Off-topic, but I was
finally able to verify what had always been my
recollection: that the song "Seattle" by Perry Como, which
only made #38 on the Hot 100, was of course a giant hit in
my hometown of Seattle, reaching #4 on KJR, the most
popular top 40 station in the city at the time.

I love the link, and I see where I can search by calls, city or state... but how would I search for the song?

Just click on "Singles" on the left side menu and type in
the title.
