If you're a music collector and would like to join in the discussion, we'd love to have you here on the Top 40 Music On CD forum. Unfortunately, the forum software does not have a way to block spam bots. I opened up registration last night for less than 20 minutes, and four bots had each registered a user name and posted spam links during that time.
Please feel free to contact me directly at kanno1ae@hotmail.com, and I'd be happy to register you. In your email, please let me know your desired user name.
Thanks!

So you're just assuming those spam bots aren't music collectors who want to discuss Top 40 songs on CD, eh?
Maybe they've got a secret, secret. Maybe they have parts made in Japan. Maybe they've got a secret they've been hiding under their skin. Maybe their hearts are human, their blood is boiling. MAYBE THEIR BRAIN IS IBM!
By any chance were any of their user names "Kilroy?" Asking for a friend. Domo arigato.

Hey y'all:
I'm Autumn and just joined the forum after viewing it
for a couple of years. I really like that this board
has devoted threads regarding song and artist instead
of just open ended questions like "What's your
favorite song today?" which makes any valuable factual
information hard to reference in a search.
Many of today's Lp only buyers only focus on
album versions of songs. Many weren't around when
the songs were current. Furthermore, I can't believe
the regression back to records as a preferred format.
That ship already sailed for me. Chat forums are a
dying breed where videos have not quite filled the
gap.
I'm into soul and found the 1989-92 period very
difficult when collecting. Styles changed quickly
as often later singles cut from a year old album
would get a remix. As the 90's progressed, cd singles
especially weren't readily available like 45's. The
'hit version' would get lost in the shuffle or worse
yet replaced on the second pressing of the album.

Let me say welcome. I like to think of this board as old school. You can actually find out a lot about what isn't on cd vs what is (no offense to Pat's incredible database, which is worth the money all by itself). I'm glad for all my years reading the threads on this board that no one asks what your favorite song is. I can say that many of the posters here have invaluable resources and collections and often post their knowledge or offer edit points for songs where they can.
If we can answer any questions, do not hesitate to ask. Again welcome.

Hope it's okay to ask in this thread
(since I'm still new, I'm trying to get
the hang of things here). How do you quote
comments (for instance, a few lines from a
post) without having to quote the entire
post? I've quoted some posts before with
the "Quote" button that's in the upper
right hand corner of each post, but that
always quotes the entire thing instead of
the few lines that I might actually want
to quote. Any help with this is
appreciated, so thank you in advance!

I'm not sure if this is what everyone else does, but I use the quote button in the upper corner and then delete the part of the quote I don't want to appear.

Hi Aaron & all:
Thanks for adding me. Lifelong music fan, esp. of '80s-era pop. Fairly astute researcher and home edit recreator. Looking forward to contributing where I can!

Hello everyone,
Thanks to Aaron for getting me set up with membership here.
I've been visiting for years and thought I'd register to contribute some information.
Growing up with music in the 60's this is the place to find those original 45 versions on CD.
Great job done by everyone involved and a nice friendly atmosphere!

I used to make the joke Autumn that at least before the 90's you knew what the definition of the hit version was. For every LP version in the 90's there was a remix that was more popular often and got the airplay- think EBTG "Missing" or Los Del Rio- Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix). Even cool R & B hip hop artists like Mclyte, LL Cool J etc had specific airplay remixes that make the LP pale in comparison (Loungin-Who Do U Luv, Cool Rock A Party Bad Boy Remix).
It was like the wild wild west of music.
