the db states that the hit version was the solo version
with rihanna alone running 4:03. i checked the billboard
web site from that period and it reflects as featuring
britney spears. question is, which version was/is
considered the hit version? the 4:03 solo version or the
4:17 remix with britney version?

FWIW, I never heard the duet version on top 40 radio. They always played the solo version, and occasionally when it comes up as a "gold" song on the local Kiss FM station, it's still the solo version.

I've only heard the solo version when it was a current and still hear only the solo version in the Gold category at other stations. We weren't allowed to add this song at our CHR station because of the lyrics.

Ed, the Spears duet version's sales the week of its release helped this
song finally top the Hot
100 but the solo version always led in airplay. If I recall correctly when it
fell back out the top slot the next week Billboard went back to crediting
the solo version only since the rule then was to only list the version with
the biggest audience.

It may have been a remix, and it may have lasted only one week, but it still officially charted on the Hot 100 for a week as Rihanna and Britney Spears and is the reason why it got to #1 instead of #2.

I agree the solo version is the hit version, but the remix is also just as important to collect. I collect both, since both are official hit versions.

I found a listing on discogs for a 3:17 edit of the Rihanna and Britney remixed version. It is track #3. Does anyone know where this version is, if it exists at all? Thanks.

I'm quite curious what the difference between the clean and explicit versions are. I didn't hear any beeps or changed lyrics in the primecuts clean version. Anyone know?
