In 1972, the Pure Prarie League's "Amie" was commercially released on 45 in addition to the group's RCA LP Bustin' Out. On the LP, there is a track called "Falling in and out of Love", which runs 2:12 and then segues smoothly into "Amie", the proceeding track. I bring this up because I've heard radio stations over the years play "Falling in and Out of Love" and "Amie" together as one continuous song and it's made me wonder if a promo 45 was ever issued in this manner? The two tracks do sound like they were meant to go hand-in-hand. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Todd, "Early Morning Riser" was the only single issued from Bustin' Out in 1972. There were no further 45s from the LP until "Amie" was issued in late '74-early '75.
I posted the info you're looking for and some label scans about halfway down the page during an xmfan discussion of "I'm Almost Ready" here:

Excellent info, Yah Shure! So, to paraphrase what you posted on the "XM Fan" website... RCA serviced two different promo 45s of "Amie" to radio. The first has a run time of 2:37 and is identical to the commercial 45. The second one running 3:16 features a longer intro and ends cold with the "Falling in and out of Love" chorus.
Now, you also mention in your post that the longer 3:16 radio version made its commercial CD debut on Time-Life's Sounds of the Seventies - AM Nuggets compilation (catalog #SOD-35). If this is indeed the case, then the current database comment for this CD should be changed from "neither the 45 nor LP version" to something like: "this is the long DJ edit". There are also a half dozen other CD entries in the database right now where "Amie" runs 3:14 and has the "neither the 45 nor LP version" comment. It appears likely these discs all contain the longer DJ edit as well!
Getting back to my initial post, I know I've also heard radio stations play the "Falling in and out of Love" track followed by "Amie" for a total run time of 6:30. I guess these stations must've all simply played the two tracks back-to-back directly from the Bustin' Out LP because I'm not aware of a promo 45 existing in this 6:30 length.
And speaking of the Bustin' Out LP, I wonder why RCA waited well over two years after the album's release to finally issue "Amie" on a commercial 45??

My buddy Yah Shure was kind enough to recently send me a label scan for
his mono/stereo (2:37) promo 45, which I have yet to locate. I have,
however, just received the mono/stereo, listed (3:16) on both sides promo
45 he also has. Also confirmed as RCA 10184, simply FYI, the actual times
for both sides is (3:18).
This song did well in my local area. I remember my Top 40 station of choice
back then switching over to this longer 45 version just a couple of weeks
after they first added it, and stayed with it, for both the duration of its
current chart run and also as a recurrent, as I recall.

My promo is the 2:37 version with the fade ending which is
what I remember playing in the spring of '75. Don't think
I've ever heard the 3:18 one.
Only other station I worked at that played it was a soft AC
in the early 90s, we played a longer version than this
single, but it was definitely shorter than 6:30...maybe
4:30-5:00. It was on cart so it could have conceivably
been a house edit.

The database shows a lot of CDs that run 4:18, which is the LP version. Maybe that's the version your soft AC station played.

The LP version at 4:18 with "Falling In and Out Of Love" is
what FM oriented automated tape syndicators used and FM
Soft AC stations used in the era. Now the usually
programmed version on Oldies/Soft AC Gold Based Formats.

Is there any overlap between the two tracks ("Falling" and "Amie"), or is there some degree of silence? I only have the
"Amie" LP version portion (and the (2:37) edit).

Doug,
No they don't overlap. "Falling In And Out Of Love"
finishes completely then "Amie" starts.
But for my own mp3 library, I made my own cross-faded
version so they'd always play together.
