Good news! The 3:52 US 45 version is an early fade of the UK 12" version. I just ordered a copy of this 2 CD set, and I'm happy to now have the proper 45 & 12" remix on CD.

Good news indeed, Aaron. Thanks for the heads up on this, as well as the debut CD appearance of Inside Love (So Personal). It's just a shame that they didn't also include the promo 45 version of Love X Love on this collection. I've never encountered it on CD and as far as I know, it can't be edited using the commercial 45 version. But hey, you can't win 'em all.

Aaron, I have just received my U.S. promo 12" single for "Give Me The Night".
and have shot you out a dub, for your analysis. The "Give Me The Night" side
has a listed time of (4:58), states "PRO-A-882 RE-1" on the label, and has
handwritten deadwax info of "PRO A1 882-RE1-A1".

Thanks, Jim! It's interesting that they used "RE-1" on the label and in the deadwax, because your promo 12" contains the LP version. I should also add that the UK 12" mix has quite a bit of dynamic range compression (not brickwalling) to try to make it sound beefy. When you compare it to the 45, it doesn't quite sound the same because of all the compression that was added. The CD, though, is mastered well and does not have any hard limiting/brickwalling.

Could you share where this fade starts? I'd like to recreate the 3:52 45 version using this UK 12" single.

Just yesterday, I obtained a copy of a UK import called Midnight Moods, which is a George Benson compilation. Track 2 is the US 3:52 45 version of "Give Me The Night." The sound is a bit flat, but it can be fixed with a little EQ adjustment. Also, this doesn't have the added dynamic range compression that is found on the UK 12" mix from the 2 CD set. This will now be my go-to copy for this hard-to-find single mix.
