From what I understand, streaming had a lot to do with
it.

Well strike Bad Guy off the list of #2's that never made #1.

I say Senorita will be overtaking it in a week or two. The backup has cleared up people, nothing to look at let's move on....:)

OK, I just heard this song for the first
time over the
weekend (obviously, I don't really follow the charts much
anymore!), and for the life of me I don't see how this
could be the #1 song in the country for going on 5
months.
Was just kind of a "nothing" song to my ears...I didn't
hear anything special about it.

Can anyone give me a clue why this is such a big hit?

It's just one of those songs that caught on with the
general public. The sheer novelty of a black rapper
doing a Country sounding song, then throw in Billy Ray
Cyrus for good measure, and you have a hit single in
2019. It set all kinds of streaming records and that's
what kept it at #1 for 19 weeks. Plus, other than a
couple of Taylor Swift songs, there really was nothing
big enough to knock it off. That Billie Eilish song was
a steady streaming hit that was finally able to surpass
"Old Town Road" this week.
